Selecting the best outfitter for your family's whitewater rafting adventure may be the most crucial decision you'll make; here are some recommendations.
When you’re ready to raft with three generations, as I recently did with my parents and children, contact your travel agent or one of the top outfitters below, all of which welcome families.
Most of these companies plan trips for the very old or very young based on the seasonal flow of rivers, potential difficulty of the rapids (rated Class I to Class VI, with Class VI being the toughest) and children’s or elder’s ages. Most companies restrict river trips with Class III rapids and above to children over 7 years, though some base their rules on weight.

All the outfitters mentioned below run multi-day raft and camp trips as well, and many function as adventure outfitters for snowmobiling, dog sledding, etc. during the winter. Due to the advance planning required, few outfitters offer refunds for cancellations, so travel insurance is highly recommended.
