Snowboard Fun on the Mountain at Grand Targhee, Wyoming

Grand Targhee in Alta, Wyoming, previously a winner of FTF’s Top 10 Getaways for Tiny Travelers award, gets a fresh look in 2015.

At the main gateway to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, your family can enjoy a year-round mountain adventure at this isolated  “Old West” retreat.  Located at 8,000 feet in the majestic Grand Teton Mountains on over 2,500 acres of the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, this small, friendly, not-fancy resort offers hiking, chairlift rides, swimming, mountain bike riding and climbing in summer. Snowboarding, alpine, Nordic and snowcat skiing, snowmobiling, dogsledding, sleigh riding and ice skating keep everyone on the go during the winter.

With 70% of the ski trails rated intermediate, 20% advanced, and 10% beginner on Fred’s Mountain, Targhee is famous for up to 500″ of powder annually. Its unique climate draws active families from throughout the West and as far east as Europe. 

In winter, childcare and ski school programs are available daily for children from 2-months to 14-years-old in full and half-day sessions.  Targhee’s charming log cabin nursery is state-licensed and staffed by highly-trained caregivers who keep babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers up to 5-years-old entertained.  Private lessons are available from age 2. Kids 3 1/2 to 5-years-old can begin group lessons focusing on balance and basic skills.  6 to 14-year-olds are divided into groups according to age and ability for ski and snowboard lessons, also in half and full day sessions.  Multi-day sessions are also offered.

In summer, scheduled nature-based camp programs occupy the kindergartners to sixth graders, and childcare for little ones from 2-months is also available.
