Located in Southern Brazil, the Costao do Santinho (55 48 3261 1234) is a beautiful resort that has everything a family needs: a safe beach that is family-friendly, but still off the beaten path.

My kids loved the different activities the friendly staff offered for them. With three separate groups, there is something for all children, no matter what their age. Costao Kids is for children ages 4-6 years old; Magico is for the kiddies between 7-12 years old; and Costao Teens is for, well, the teenagers. But do not worry if you have children younger than four, the resort has a babysitting service for them. All of these groups have age-appropriate recreational activities.

If you want to keep the kids by your side, there is plenty of areas to relax and enjoy the sun with your family. With one of the most beautiful beaches in all of Brazil and 12 different swimming pools throughout the complex, this the perfect resort for a relaxing family vacation and that's what we were after.

The accommodations are lavish and large. Families can choose between private villas, apartments or suites and the suite we could afford was very nice. And the cuisine is also amazing with six restaurants on the grounds to choose from each serving different types of international cuisine to cater to everyone’s tastes. There is French, Italian and local Brazilian fare.

The hotel is in the south of Brazil in Florianopolis, a place with beautiful beaches, hiking, neighborhoods as well as the freshest seafood I have ever tasted and most intact history I have ever seen. The kids really seemed to like the region. So much history in fact that on the grounds of Costao do Santinho is Brazil’s only open air Archeological Museum. The resort is also situated on Morro das Aranhas, or Spider Hill, and is part of a Private Natural Patrimony Reserve making it the perfect spot for ecological outings. Plus, if you want to rent a boat (which we did not have a chance to do), you are only 1.5 miles away from the local marina.

The Loowe Family told us they were slightly nervous about traveling to Brazil after hearing numerous warnings about dangerous cities, bad drinking water and pollution. They are so happy they did not listen and found the Costao do Santinho, a resort that is now their favorite in the entire world. The Loowes are from Denver, CO.
