Our family loves to take road trips, and this summer was no exception. We decided to venture out of our hometown of Lafayette, LA and head east to Jacksonville, FL so that our kids, ages 3 & 5, could experience the beach for the first time.
Our first stop while on this summer’s road trip was in Slidell, LA to get a bite to eat. We picked up our food (hot dogs and pizza from Sam’s club … don’t judge) and we searched for a park nearby.
I noticed a large green area on Google Maps on my phone and we decided to check out what it was. After Google Maps made us take a couple of wrong turns, we finally entered Camp Salmen Nature Park, a park with over 100 acres of nature. My wife, a biology teacher, was in paradise.
We sat under the pavilion to eat our lunch and afterwards we let our kids play on the playground. We decided to go for a walk around the nature park, and, WOW, what a park this is. There are so many great things about this park including, a nice lake with a view, a historic site, beautiful oak trees to climb on, lots of grassy areas, and hiking trails that we were not able to hike on because we ran short of time.
If you want to see what this nature park looks like, here is a video that I created of the few hours that we had there. We definitely told ourselves that we want to go back and explore this area more.
