Kerrville: An accidental love - My Family Travels
kerrvillewindowview

Three days after last Christmas, I fell in love and experienced an explosion at just thirteen years old. However, there were no flames or a handsome boy riding a white horse; it was just the family truck and the most whimsical town called Kerrville that completely changed me. Six days before we had wound up in this situation, my grandpa unfortunately passed away. Now my mom, dad, two turtles, and I were all taking the two day trip from Houston, Texas to Tucson, Arizona for the funeral. Despite the grief, December 28th was the day I discovered southern hospitality, cheap tacos, and the fact that I could fall in love with a town we had landed in by what my family and I thought was a nightmare.

Heavy eyelids covering my eyes suddenly jolted awake when I heard an earsplitting boom, Daddy yelling, and felt the car completely stopping off I-10. Suddenly, I saw heavy smoke coming from underneath our blue truck’s shiny hood. Regardless of the explosion within our poor truck, there was no fire, accident, or injuries. In spite of that luck, no one looked on the bright side. Three people, two turtles, and one uncooperative truck were all stranded in the middle of nowhere in the freezing cold. Plus, we had passed San Antonio an hour ago and thought that there was nothing here until El Paso. This obviously felt like the end of the world.

As I played out many pessimistic scenarios of our doom in my head, we all realized that we weren’t alone. Various people stopped by to see what happened; one elderly couple even offered to call a tow truck in a town named Kerrville that was a few miles back. We gladly accepted in our desperation! It was certainly a miracle that we were no longer going to be out by ourselves, but we were still worried we’d miss the funeral with our vehicle under repair. At that moment, it was still one of the worst cases of unlucky travel that could ever happen.

My mind changed once Kerrville proved itself to be a very miraculous event. Everything there was absolutely perfect! Our truck was repaired within an hour from a broken water pump, but we decided to stay in case our truck had problems again. As we were driving over to a Motel 6, we saw a Mexican restaurant called “Acapulco”. All of our stomachs automatically dragged us there! Inside, I discovered a four dollar plate of delicious tacos and extremely jubilant people. After dinner, we drove to around site seeing and noticed the pure beauty of the town. Kerrville had a very vintage feel to its architecture wrapped inside of a woodland wonderland. The circumference of nearby mountains while being engulfed by a starry sunset really tickled the imagination. We only stayed in the astonishing town until the next morning, but I was hooked to Kerrville.

Kerrville now changed my plans of where I want to be once I’m grown up. My mind, heart, and soul have discovered that I belong there. It seems that what went wrong turned into a right; it was an example why all things happen for a reason. Perhaps I was supposed to discover Kerrville and learn more about myself. One thing for sure is that our truck should break down more often if accidents like Kerrville are discovered! After all, nothing beats a puny town of pure beauty that’s perfect for nature lovers, hunters, families, and anyone that just wants to experience a word that is actually pure perfection.

I had the chance to experience Denmark during the Christmas season, and it’s something I’ll always hold close to my heart. Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen felt like stepping into a storybook. The way the entire park was dressed in soft, glowing lights, handmade decorations, and the comforting scent of mulled wine in the air made every moment feel special.

There’s a unique warmth about this place that isn’t just from the cocoa or winter drinks, but from the people, the laughter, and the little traditions scattered around every corner. Watching families gather, children’s faces light up at the sight of the reindeer, and the simple joy of wandering through beautifully decorated stalls reminded me how lovely the holiday season can be.

It’s not just about the decorations or the rides — it’s the feeling of togetherness, the calm, and the way time seems to slow down so you can really take in the small, meaningful moments. I left with a heart full of good memories and a deep appreciation for the charm and kindness of Danish traditions.

If you ever get the chance to visit, I promise it’s a place that will stay with you long after you’ve left.

  • Thank you for such praise, I am glad I could present the material in a way that made you want to see and experience St. Augustine’s Black history for yourself.

Of course, this beach town has lots more to offer but if you are willing to walk the lanes and dig a little bit, the history of the first Blacks and how much they contributed to protecting the colony is fascinating.

Hope you get there and enjoy your trip.

Great content for cruise lovers !! One of the most advantage of cruising is you do not have to pick your luggages every day , and every day you discover a new country. Although one day is not enough to see everything it gives an idea about a country ! With my experience since 2007, 99,9% of my guest said that Kusadasi/Turkey is their favorite port among all the other ports. Because we have a lot of options for every traveler. The most popular places , if your ship is docking at Kusadasi, is Ephesus ancient city which is only 25 min. drive away. Ephesus was the 4th largest ancient city of the world in 2 c AD.Most of the ruins are reconstructed and gives an idea about Roman’ glorious times. If you ever visit Ephesus, I suggest you to see Terrace Houses , where the rich were living and houses are decorated with beautiful mosaics and frescoes from 3rd c AD.If you want to add a spiritual break , thats House of Virgin Mary is there. It is believed that she was taken by St. John the apostle to there.Another place you must see Ephesus Museum.. Forget all that boring museums you have seen . While guiding , I explain the most interesting artifacts , including original staue of Artemis. BTW. did you know that one of seven wonders of ancient world was located there? Well… not so much left , but it is still worth to be seen. If you ever visit Kusadasi, and want to have private tour, please feel free to contact with me ! I am very happy to answer your questions and customize your trip to Ephesus. Please visit my website, not only for Ephesus trip but also to get an idea about my beloved country Turkey/Turkiye. You can see different types of tours that I organize. Archaeological , culinary or lets customize your tour to Turkey together!! luxurytoursofturkey.com/
