My Experience in El Salvador - My Family Travels

One of my most recent trips was to El Salvador during the summer of the year 2011.  It was just a trip to visit my family over there in El Salvador.  The trip lasted for about two weeks, and I had an amazing time just hanging out with my cousins.  Since it was a visit that we had planned ourselves, there were no travel organizations involved.

My family and I did not go to hotel or any kind of resort; we had actually stayed at my Uncle Miguel’s house.  While we were there, I met many of my cousins and aunts and uncles for the first time in my life.  I had a great time in El Salvador because I had visited the church that my family went to when they lived there.  I also had a great experience going to the water park in Santa Ana, Santa Ana.  It was within driving distance from where I was staying at, which was Cojutepeque, Cuscatlán.  I didn’t find very appealing over in El Salvador because it was such a poor neighborhood; however, I actually did get to visit my aunt from my dad’s side.  I got to meet more of my cousins over there.

My Uncle Miguel had a son named Miguelito, who was my age.  We hung out a lot and got to know each other.  I also loved to play with their dogs.  Chispa was very energetic and loved to have people’s attention.  She was a grayish color and would usually tackle me and my brother and start licking us.  The other dog, Nerom, wasn’t as playful.  He liked to rest and would usually stay calm and serene.  He was a dark-brown dog and loved to be petted.  I loved these two dogs so much, but unfortunately they aren’t there anymore.

When I went to the water park, I had so much fun.  I would love to swim around in the pool.  I also went down the slides.  It was hilarious though because my cousin, Gerardo, was sliding down on one of those things that you would need to sit in and he let go on the second bump and flew into the water.  At first, it kind of scared me because he was still pretty high, but afterward, when I would think about it, I would just remember how he just flopped into the water.  I would laugh at that.

There was some times where I got scared.  For example, my Uncle Miguel is good at scaring off dogs.  He was just so intimidating and I admired that about him.  So, I tried out exactly what he did, but it backfired.  Instead of scaring off the dog, the dog began to chase me.  My heart was beating so much at the thought of being attacked by that dog.  I guess I just wasn’t as intimidating as my uncle.

My uncle also knew how to make awesome homemade ice cream.  It was so delicious, and it was vanilla-flavored ice cream.  Sadly though, my uncle passed away just recently.  I had an awesome experience meeting him, and I’m glad I got the chance to.  I’m going to miss him so much.

This trip impacted me a lot because I was able to meet my family in El Salvador for the first time in my life, and it was a great experience for me.
