As we neared the ground to Cusco, Peru I took notice to the beautiful mountains. Green. Not from the trees… It was an incredible view from above. The farm lands looked like a patchwork quilt of different shades of green and brown. How amazing it is, too, the buildings and houses. Built so simply. The houses are built right into the mountainside. And when it got dark, the mountains were speckled with lights that illuminated the area. The beauty here… It passes all my understanding.
We made our way to many ruins including Q’engo, Tambomachay, Sacsayhuaman, Ollantaytambo, Pisac, and Machu Pichu. The beauty of these mountainous ruins is beyond description. So green, so perfect… It’s like they have been untouched and left exactly how they were when these cities were built. These Inca ruins are incredible; they truly were beyond their time. It’s such a mystery how they got the rocks to shape the way they did, and to fit perfectly one with another. What we could do with their architectural knowledge… Everything seen, natural, man-made, ancient, modern… It passes all my understanding.
When We arrived at Machu Pichu, it was covered in fog. So high up, the clouds just enveloped the mountain peak. The fog gave this ancient place a very mystical feeling. To see these buildings and walls, this entire city… built like it was; built so it wouldn’t collapse via earthquake or storm. Built like this without our technology… It passes all my understanding.
The markets in Pisac and Lima were so extravagant for such a poor place. There were rows and rows for shops with everything you could imagine. There were colors too, that could only have been created from a dream. The shops were like a store located on a rainbow. It didn’t matter the product, there was so much color. The shop owners were so happy and so humble; knowing that their profit from the day would be their meal for the next. Yet, they maintained their composure and kept a smile. Seeing everyone here… and their quality of life, really makes me think: Why was I placed where I am? I am so fortunate, even more so than some of my friends. I could be in some third world country, barely alive and never heard of Christ. Why do I have the nice house, the amazing vacations, and the ability to go to school? Why am I who I am, and what am I supposed to accomplish? I may never really know, but I do trust… It simply passes all my understanding.

Great place for kids. My 2 and 4 year old tried every water slide, pool, and toy. They loved the beach as well with the calm, warm waters. It was far from a relaxing trip but this one was all about the kids.

I live in Jacksonville and there is no longer a ‘lively waterfront’. The shops and restaurants were demolished after a mass shooting at one of the establishments. Head to the beach not downtown!! There is a lovely historic district called Avondale/Riverside area. It is absolutely beautiful with shops and restaurants and a beautiful park with a kick a** playground! The neighborhoods sit on the St John’s River. The old homes are big and beautiful. I walk that area regularly and have lived there. Stunning!!!
