At first, my family and I were apprehensive of visiting the scenic Thai town of Krabi due to its recent tsunami disaster in 2005, but we were willing to take a chance to see how this tourist hotspot was coping, so we set out for our Thai adventure in the summer of 2011 en route to our final destination of India. I was surprised to find what awaited me and how nothing reminiscent of the tsunami remained. We stayed in Krabi at the Sheraton Krabi Resort , a splendid resort with traditional Thai architecture sprawling alongside the beautiful beachside of Klong Muong beach. The resort itself was a treat: very close to Krabi Town and the famed Ao Nang beach, great customer service, helpful bellboys, and also close to Krabi’s local attractions, and most importantly, a great deal for using Starwood Preferred Guest Points towards our stay at this exotic resort. One huge suggestion is to try the resort’s scrumptious breakfast buffet at Mangosteen’s consisting of numerous Thai delicacies like coconut shredded pancakes as well as traditional American breakfast staples. Aside from having breakfast at the resort, I suggest you head to Krabi town for lunch and dinner to save more on meals because meals at this resort are over thirty dollars per person per meal…..it’s a Sheraton of course! Now, in regards to Krabi, you can find picturesque beaches all over, but the main attraction are the Phi Phi islands that my family and I took the opportunity to visit through a local wonderful travel agency known as Andaman Charisma Travel & Tours operated by Sara, the owner, a friendly local woman who gives you the best deals as well as tips to saving when visiting Krabi. The Phi Phi islands were a sight to see and the ferry ride taking us to each and every island provided us with the utmost comfort possible. We visited and stopped over at all the small islands and were even lucky enough to surpass the famed James Bond Island !Before reaching the main island of Ko Phi Phi, we had a snorkel stop near one of the tallest grottos where underwater we were able to view of plethora of tropical fish as well as local monkeys fooling around with tourists .Our final stop on our Phi Phi island tour led us to the main island where right in front was a breathtaking, clear water beach and Phi Phi village in the back with tons of shops and restaurants. The whole island itself had a hipster feel with backpackers roaming about, but that didn’t take away from the beauty surrounding the island. The whole Phi Phi Island tour experience was memorable and it is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see in -person scenic views that you only thought existed on postcards. While you’re at it visiting all the tourist attractions of Krabi, I suggest you visit The Tiger Cave and dare to see if you can make your way up on the tiny, numerous, steep steps to the elaborately designed temple within. I also suggest you experience the natural Jacuzzis of Krabi at the famed Klong Thom Hot Springs, where volcanic activity underground the islands provides you with the best hot tubs you can find on the face of Earth and a cool stream below to cool off. Krabi overall is a beautiful destination with friendly locals and has overcome a lot after the devastating tsunami; I highly recommend it to all!
