Just recently, I was lucky enough to be able to obtain the experience of living in Japan as a teenager and also as a tourist. This trip has brought so much memories, experience, and even improved my Japanese language skills. This trip has opened my mind up to a lot more possibilities, I became more understanding of different cultures. Most importantly, I am more cultural aware. I am very thankful for being able to go on this trip.
It was the 8th of June at midnight when I left to the airport to go to Osaka, Japan. I was quite excited, yet a little nervous. The flight there was terrible, it took about a day and half to get there, but the time difference took away a day from my life, but that was okay, because when I returned to Fairbanks, Alaska, I got back an extra day. The first three days that my group arrived to Japan, we visited many temples, they were all very beautiful and they are very popular tourist place. After the short three days with our group, we separate and go to our host familiy's house. Now, anyone who hasn't had an experience with a host family before might not know that it is actually very bittersweet. Living with a host family is incredibly fun, they always take great care of you. The part I don't like about homestay is the farewell, when I said bye to my host family, I cried so much. Each of us only stayed with our host family for one week, but I never realized a week with a strange family can create such a strong connection. After the very short homestay, we traveled with our group for three more days. Although we traveled so much in those three days, the things we saw definitely made up for the tireness. We went to places such as; Ueno Zoo, Mirakan Science Museum, Odaiba city, etc… I saw panda bears for the first time in my life, and the statue of liberty, beautiful red sky after a unfortunate events of typhoon, saw the tallest towers, etc…
Overall, the trip was so short to me, but I gained some of the best experience, I met amazing individuals, and my language skill has improved vastly. I am already dying to visit Japan again. Japan is a place I'd definitely recommend for anyone to visit once in their ilfetime.
