Having our mother work for the airlines for most of our childhood has provided us with great experiences that my sisters and I consider ourselves very lucky to have had. Unlike many of the people in our tiny town, we’ve had the opportunity to visit countless, amazing places across the United States. Our trips have ranged from historical and informational, to exciting, fun, and laid back. My absolute favorite vacation was our trip to San Diego for my mother and my step-fathers wedding.

Although we were in San Diego during the week that the banker referred to as “June Gloom”, it was a wonderful vacation. It was one of those perfect vacations where we didn’t really have to do anything, because we had so much fun just being with each other. For the vacation, we had rented a beach house a couple blocks away from the beach in Ocean Beach, and all eight of us were cramped in a two bedroom, one bathroom house for a week. None of us could complain though, it was amazing and incredibly fun; there was never any point where we felt cramped or annoyed by each other.
On our family vacations we never make any plans, we get there, and just decide on a whim what to do each day, and most of those days consisted on walking to the beach, we spent as much time there as we could. The first day we decided to walk down, it was just my sister, my step sister and I. Trying to get back was a huge challenge, we got lost, my sister got glass in her foot, and my step sister was panicking, but that’s a whole other 600 word essay in itself. A few nights we walked down in the evening and it was absolutely breathtaking. There was a cool, perfect breeze and watching the ocean was so serene and peaceful. Those nights made me fall in love with San Diego.
Aside from the wedding, one of the most special days for my step dad was when we went to visit the USS Midway. He had been on the ship when he was in the Navy and it was so great to see him light up telling us all about it. We had the best tour there, he could tell us what everything was for and he could go in to great detail about it all. We saw everything on the ship, the sleeping quarters, the engine room, and we got to go to the top where the planes took off from. Standing up there gave us a great view of San Diego and we could also see the “Unconditional Surrender” Statue of the kissing couple, I was excited to be able to explain that to my sisters. The whole day was a great experience for all of us.
The most important day of the vacation was the wedding. They planned to do the wedding at Sunset Cliffs, and it was a very stunning place, with just one problem-it was freezing cold! All of us were wearing small sundresses and our fingers were slightly numb. My littlest sister’s lips were turning blue as well as baby London’s feet. Aside from the freezing cold, it was so beautiful. I told myself and everyone I was not going to cry, yet I was the first one with tears rolling down. It was such a happy moment.
Everything about that vacation was perfect, and I wish I could relive that week over and over again. We all loved every second.
