It is crazy to think that it has been four years since my family and I hopped on a plane and went to Hawaii. Every moment of the trip is still fresh in my mind. It seems like it was just yesterday when I stepped of the plane where we were welcomed into the Oaho, Hawaii with leis. I dreamt about that day so much, it seemed unrealistic to finally be living it out. The best part of the Castle Resorts Hotel was that it was within walking distance to the beach. After we checked into our hotel, we decide to take a little adventure to the beach. Once we got there I could not believe how crystal clear the water was, I have never seen beach water so clear in my entire life. As the water grazed my feet I was in shock of how warm the water was.
Visiting Pearl Harbor was an eye opener for me. First of all, I only knew basic information about what happened at Pearl Harbor. Actually seeing, watching, and hearing all about what happened December 7th helped me grasp the full concept. The introduction video nearly brought me to tears. Then seeing name after name on the wall just put me in awe of how life taking Pearl Harbor was. Looking down at the ship underneath me slowly releasing oil into the water made everything seem more realistic. It was a shock to see something that you do not want to believe is real. Later on, we went on a tour of a submarine and a ship. This was the first time I have ever been on both of those. It was a neat experience to see in person and actually be in one. It was also a great place to take fun pictures with the family.
One day my family and I adventured to the Dole Pineapple Factory. After we toured the factory, we decided to plant pineapples. To add more excitement to our day, my brother, sister, and I decided to try the scavenger hunt maze. Luckily none of us got lost, however we did not complete the scavenger hunt. After walking through the maze, my parents treated us all to pineapple ice cream. I am not a huge fan of pineapples, but this ice cream was mouthwatering, to this day I still crave it.
The second island that my family and I went to, Kona, we went to a luau at the Kona Beach Hotel. At this luau I got to taste the Hawaii culture. I tried foods that are custom to Hawaii. Before the show, I got to learn how to open a coconut and got a fake tattoo. The luau was nonstop entertainment. I was amazed during every dance and some of the dances incorporated fire.
On another day we went snorkeling at the Sea of Refuge. I watched fish and turtles swim through the water. However, I have to say the best part of snorkeling was looking down and seeing hundreds of dolphins. These dolphins weren’t afraid of humans. I remember a group of four dolphins swimming towards me and one of the dolphins on each side grazed my arms.
This is just half of my week in Hawaii, but I would definitely recommend everything that I have mentioned. From the walk to the beach to swimming with dolphins there is not a single part of this trip that I would want to change. I hope one day I will relive a similar experience and I hope you will too.
