I live in Bemidji, Minnesota. If I were to be a tour guide and show somebody around Bemidji, the first thing that I would show them would be the statute of Paul Bunyan (18-feet tall) and Babe down at the waterfront. These two statutes were built between 1936 and 1937. I would take them to the Mississippi River to go fishing or swimming. Bemidji also has several lakes in and around it. Some of these lakes are: Lake Bemidji, Lake Irvine, and Wolf Lake. Especially in the summertime, these lakes are filled with people. For the most part they are either fishing or just hanging out on their pontoons. But there are many other things that are fun to do in the summer around Bemidji. Some of the things that I like to do are: fish, swim, go tubing, go water skiing, and just wade in the water. While you’re in town if you like pizza I suggest that you stop at Giovanni’s pizza or if you want something fancier try Tutto Bene. If there’s a game or concert going on at the Sanford Center, I also suggest stopping off there. If you want to walk around and see some of the “mom and pop” shops in town walk around downtown. There’s everything from coffee to jewelry! If you decided to come to Bemidji in the winter there are many other activities that you can do. One of these things is curling. Bemidji is considered the curling capital of the United States. Some of the other things that you could do are: ice fishing, ice skating, skiing, snowboarding, tubing, see the “night we light” parade downtown, or even just drive around and enjoy the view. If you like history and libraries then Bemidji Carnegie Library is the place for you. If you’re a hockey fan and in town during hockey season go see a Beavers game at the Sanford Center Arena. The Beavers are eleven time national champions and the official hockey team of Bemidji State University. The college (Bemidji State University) was built in 1919 and has been running and adding on to their buildings ever since. The campus is also a beautiful place to walk around and see for yourself all of the brick buildings. Bemidji offers all age groups many exciting things to see and do!
