Located in Lincoln Heights in Lincoln Park right next to East Los Angeles College and a walk away from the USC Institute for Global Help, is a place that is rich with culture. Plaza De la Raza is a cultural center for the arts and education that has been serving the community for about twenty five years with its affordable classes and family events that bring the people together. It offers music, dance, and acting classes while incorporating the roots of Latino and Chicano culture. Aside from the classes and activities it has much more history behind it, Plaza De La Raza was founded my Margo Albert who at the time of its founding was a successful actress and activist and thus the theatre is names after her. The school has its dance studio, music rooms, huge art space, and the boat house which now is used as an art gallery. Each art space is named after a person who dedicated their time to Plaza to the hope of keeping the raza interested in the entertainment industry. Its starting mission was to create a place for the people by the people and has kept to that standard. The place also attracts people for its lake where one can fish and feed the ducks there is also a skate park and tennis courts and ample land for one to do their daily work out.

Nearby there also happens to be The Brewery where artist live in studios while working on their art. It has art walks twice a year and is often used as a backdrop for many films, photo shoots, music videos, and a place to find an inspiration. This place not known by many and appears to be secluded has another history of its own. It gives off a rustic feel and has evidence of machinery and tracks around the site for it was an old train track station. Has its own private park and restaurant where those that live there have a chance to mingle. The people are friendly and aren’t afraid to show their creativeness and usually have it outside for others to see. The studios are equally different going from freak photography, paintings, car photographers, graphic designers, metal/wood sculptures, haute couture photographers, architectures, television animators, jewelers, dancers, and fashion designers. It is clearly a space were one can’t help but be unique and artsy.
These two places are guaranteed to leave you with the feeling of creativity.

Reading Fran Falkin’s insights took me back to my first trip with Whiskers, my feline companion. The chaos of ensuring he was comfortable amidst the hustle of the airport was a lesson in patience. Had I come across these invaluable tips earlier, our journey would’ve been as smooth as a calm sea.
