In My Hometown - My Family Travels

Only in Pine Mountain can you swing through the trees, visit a wild life animal reserve, and still be grounded by the historical significance of our natural lands. We may be “small town USA” but do not underestimate us! We have many cultures found around Pine Mountain. You have Jose, who is the best Mexican cook in Georgia. We also have Eddie Mae who can cook up the best breakfast in the South! Then we have Callaway Gardens, which kind of ties the whole place together.

From “down home cooking” to Mexican cuisine, you can find it in Pine Mountain. Bon-Vivant is a local restaurant that serves up the largest and best cinnamon rolls around. They also serve specialties like quiches, sandwiches, and other delectable dinner menu items. Are you looking for specialty baked goods, then look no further than the bakery at the Rose Cottage.  If you are looking for barbeque, then we have two awesome establishments. Three Little Pigs and Whistling Pig are our local restaurants that will settle any craving for barbeque.  Callaway Gardens also has five delicious restaurants with many different menus.

Callaway Gardens would have to be the biggest attraction that draws attention to our small town. Founded in 1952, it started as a movement to protect native azalea species. Now, it has expanded to bigger and better things! The Callaways decided to expand the awareness of natural significance. Now the gardens include Tree Top adventure, which is my personal favorite, Fantasy in Lights, which is a light show, held in the winter with over eight billion lights, and Robin Lake in which people can soak up the sun during the summer. Callaway Gardens also features a Hot Air Balloon Festival on Labor Day Weekend, Steeplechase in November. Do you like golf or riding bikes? Yes, all these activities are available at Callaway Gardens. There is something to do or see every month at Callaway Gardens.  Needless to say, Pine Mountain is always ready to greet new happy faces. Aside from the wonderful things happening at Callaway Gardens, we also have Roosevelt State Park. In our town, we take great pride in the fact that one of America’s greatest presidents loved our area. FDR, as you may know, saved our country by rescuing our financial difficulties after the stock market crash. When, he was diagnosed with polio, he felt that the warm water springs in the area helped him overcome his illness. He established a home in the area entitled “The Little White House”. This is the house in which our great president died.

As you travel a little to the north, we have Butts Mill Farm. Butts Mill Farm has putt-putt golf, petting zoo, and can be booked as a venue for your next party or family retreat or reunion. As you can see, Pine Mountain is proud of the land we live on. Whether it’s the natural elements at Callaway Gardens, or a good home cooked meal, or maybe even taking the same steps that Roosevelt once took, we take great strides in protecting the wildlife and we appreciate the land in which we are given. If you love to collect antiques, then downtown Pine Mountain is the place for you.  We have several antique and specialty stores to shop for that unique gift to take home to remember your visit. Here, we are family and will welcome any guests that happen to travel through here! Living here has a lot of advantages! We are able to escape reality and get back to nature as we all should do every now and then.

Absolutely love this list of Mardi Gras celebrations outside New Orleans! Each destination seems to offer its own unique blend of culture, music, and vibrant festivities. While I’m tempted to explore them all, I can’t help but dream of experiencing the colorful chaos of Mardi Gras in Goa, India. Exploring India’s rich cultural tapestry during this festive season would undoubtedly be an unforgettable adventure. Thanks for inspiring wanderlust with these fantastic recommendations!
