Where is home? Well I've always said that home is where you make it, but Versailles, Indiana is the place I was raised at and it is where I continue to live. This town has been around since 1818, but I've only been here since 1999. I moved here when I was three and it's the only home I can ever remember.
There's history everywhere you turn. For me it's just a place I call home. Versailles is a unique place to live. If you were to ever visit my hometown of Versailles, Indiana I would only ask that you take in everything and enjoy the peacefulness.
The Versailles State Park is a historic part of our town. It is one place that tourists would probably enjoy visiting. Why? Mainly because it is peaceful, but also because of the fun outdoor activities. People can go camping, swimming, fishing, canoeing, hiking, and do lots of other fun activities. It's just a fun place to go. The first thing I would show people would be the waterfall that is found in the park. It's so beautiful and I love the way it puts me at peace. I would tell people to just sit back, relax, and listen to the sounds of nature.
I think the best time for anyone to come to Versailles is during the last week of September. That's usually the week for our town's annual Pumpkin Show. The Versailles Pumpkin Show is when the town has a bunch of different rides, games, and booths set up all around the town square. For those that don't know; town square is the roads that surround the town's Court House. The Pumpkin Show is a big deal in our town. It happens once a year. Everyone can get together and go there to hang out and have fun.
I go with my friends and family every year. It goes on for about five days, but then it's over until the next year. I've been going for as long as I can remember and I have loved every minute of it. Now that I am seventeen whenever the Pumpkin Show comes into town I go some days with my friends and some days with my family. I get to ride rides with them, play games, and eat the delicious food. There's always funnel cake, cotton candy, pizza, corn dogs, hamburgers, and lots of other delicious foods that people enjoy eating. I recommend the funnel cake. It tastes so good. As for why it's called the Versailles Pumpkin Show; it's because it happens in Versailles and there's a parade that's held on a Saturday where the biggest pumpkins are shown off. It's really fun and gives the town something good to look forward to each year. It’s our very own town festival.
In all Versailles is a good place to go if you are looking to get away from city life. It is a place where people are proud of their country roots. Well, at least I know I am. So if you're ever in the mood to just get away from your busy schedule, please come by and visit this beautiful town known as Versailles, Indiana. You won't regret it.
