There are many great places to visit, especially historical places. While in Chillicothe, you could visit several historical landmarks from American History. You could visit Adena Mansion and Garden, which was home of Thomas Worthington. If you want to visit sites from World War I, you could visit Camp Sherman or the old armory. Did you know that Camp Sherman was one of the largest training camps during the World Wars?
Do you like Native American history? Chillicothe was once home of the Shawnee tribe. Chillicothe is also the location of Mound City, which used to be the Shawnee burial grounds! If sightseeing isn’t enough, you could even go to see Tecumseh! Tecumseh is a realistic reenactment of the Native Americans fighting in a war, when you go to see this production, it’s bound to keep everyone on the edge of their seats!
Do you love nature? Do you have a love for being outside, and watching sports? In Chillicothe, we have two state parks. If you love camping, hiking, and swimming, Scioto Trails is a great place for the whole family! Did you know Scioto Trails was used as an artillery area during World War I? If you like camping, hiking, and horse riding, the Great Seal State Park is a great spot too! The Great Seal State Park is known for being the place that the seal of Ohio was founded. You can go camping, and visit historical landmarks. If you aren’t into camping, you could always visit Yoctangee Park for a day! The kids get to play and everyone can enjoy the beautiful scenery! Then, after a day at the park you can go to our well-known Paints baseball games!
Another spot you can visit is Grandview Cemetery. This Cemetery was around in the 1800s and is the burial site for many well-known people. One person buried here is the founder of Chillicothe himself, Nathaniel Massie! Not only can you explore the old graves of many veterans and other noble people, but you can also see the most spectacular view of Chillicothe from the hilltop here.
Do you like to shop? How about going on a shop and stroll through downtown Chillicothe? Here, you can find many family-owned shops! These shops are located inside some of Chillicothe’s oldest buildings, almost two hundred years old! In downtown, you will find clothing stores, candy shops, and Schlegel’s café. You can also eat at some of Chillicothe’s well known restaurants, The Dock at Water and Old Canal Smokehouse. After dinner, you could possibly see a play at our Majestic Theater. Wouldn’t that make an amazing day?
