Looking for a spring getaway with great snow, lots of style and not too pricey? The Grand Lodge at Brian Head Ski Resort in southern Utah is welcoming guests through the end of their season (April 16, 2017) with a variety of Winter and Spring Ski packages.
Brian Head, a past winner of FTF’s Top 10 Getaways for Tiny Travelers award for its on-mountain children’s instruction, is better than ever. There’s 30% more intermediate and expert terrain, and skiers can cross easily between the Navajo Base and Brian Head Peak. The resort is offering $38 lift tickets midweek, $27 kids lift tickets, and Brian Head University — a 3-lesson package for $299 including lessons, lift tickets and 3 days of rental gear that earns “graduates” a free season pass till the resort closes. Special spring events and festivals are being held every Saturday.
We like the casual yet stylish Grand Lodge, which appeals to a more upscale Las Vegas and southern California family crowd that frequents the ski resort. Although there are many condos and private homes to rent near the mountain, the Grand is for families who enjoy the pampering hotel experience. A fun pool with grotto features and a waterfall, plus an indoor and outdoot hot tub with slope views, are family favorites. There are dining options at Leany’s Liftbar & Grill, a bar and a day spa to provide services after a day on the slopes. The large rooms have work stations, free WiFi, comfortable seating, mini-fridges that the concierge can stock in advance, microwaves and coffeemakers, so the comforts of home are close at hand.
There is a popular outdoor cafe with a firepit and bronze wildlife sculpture. Inside, it’s a fun scene with pools tables, flat screen TVs showing sports teams, a bar, dining area, and a large fireplace with cozy couches. Even if the kids aren’t old enough to drink, this lounge has special permits (this is Utah, after all) to accommodate them with a play area so parents can relax and unwind.
At the Grand, rooms are very spacious and the Resort Queen room has two queen beds, a large bathroom with walk-in showers (bath tubs on request) and plenty of space for a crib or rollaway (an additional $25/night). Pets are welcome too for another $25/night fee and even have their own walking area outside the hotel.
The packages subject to availability currently include a Stay 3 and Pay 2 offer, and a 15% off break on Midweek Plans. The Bed and Breakfast Family plan, which allows 2 Adults and 2 children 12 and under to have breakfast daily, runs $179/N this spring. (Additional adults or children are $10 each.)
