The small town of Quincy rests between evergreen mountains in Plumas County in Northern California. The best time to visit Quincy is around Fourth of July weekend. This time is perfect weather for swimming and hiking and the High Sierra Music Festival is in town. I highly recommend the High Sierra Music Festival as it consists of Rock-n-Roll and Bluegrass music. After a day at the music festival the most comfortable place to stay the night is definitely at the Quincy Courtyard Suites. They offer spacious rooms to sprawl out and relax in with The Drunk Brush Wine Bar downstairs for the adults to unwind in. Both the suites and the bar are run by Barbara Newman, a kind and upbeat soul who will definitely make you feel welcome.
For a day of adventure you can start with horseback riding at Oakland Feather River Camp in Quincy. This is offered on Thursdays and Saturdays for a couple hours on a mountain trail. Another great thing to do on a warm day is to go hiking. My personal favorite hike is to Spanish Creek Cascades. During this hike you can experience a refreshing mountain spring, beautiful waterfalls, and breathtaking scenery and this is all within a two mile round trip hike. A more relaxing option for the day can include stopping at any of the local creeks like Spanish Creek or Indian Creek along Highway 89 in the canyon to go for a swim. You could even head up to Lake Almanor for a beach day. Lake Almanor is about 30 miles from Quincy and there are businesses in the area that rent out jet skis and boats. If that is not your speed you can always take a book to the beach and wade in the clear water.
Quincy, California is a great place to travel to if you are looking for adventure and relaxation, fresh air and a place to smile.
