FTF's list of great family restaurants in Madrid, Spain

Clueless about where to eat in Madrid? Here are some dining ideas for you and your family:

Casa Mingo (547.79.18), Paseo de la Florida 2. Moderate-priced indoor/outdoor dining in converted 17th century monastery. Limited menu of mouth-watering grilled chicken, roast potatoes, and tapas. Superb home-made apple cider accompanies every meal. Filled with families.

Los Galayos (366.30.28), calle Botoneras 5, Plaza Mayor. Traditional Spanish cuisine (and continental favorites) served by ancient waiters in a traditional setting, ca. 1894. Very good food, multilingual menu, tourist prices and ambiance, but still fun.

Pasteleria La Ciudad de Viena (527.25.57), calle de Embajadores 3. Excellent bakery open early, near El Rastro flea market.

Mesón Museo del Jamón. Chain of seven very colorful, yet traditional Spanish restaurants decorated with hanging hams. Many tapas. Kid-pleaser.

Restaurante La Chuleta (429.37.29), calle Echegaray 20, Plaza Sta. Ana. Pleasant indoor/outdoor dining with limited menu of daily Spanish specials. Moderately-priced.

Bar Ronda (527.18.16), Ronda Toledo 8, near El Rastro. Working class bar serves great snacks and cafe in lively atmosphere.

Los Timbales (725.07.68), Alcala 227, near Plaza de los Toros. Terrific traditional tapas bar with large variety of ham, cheeses, olives, beers and wines, in a neighborhood of shops selling bullfighting costumes and related gear.

Family-Friendly Flamenco Clubs

Cafe des Chinitas (559.51.35), Torija 7, off the Gran Via. Stylish Chinese/boudoir decor with a small stage hosting big name acts. Dinner is served, but we went for delicious desserts and paid the cover charge.

Corral de la Morería (365.84.46), calle Morería 17. Another popular club which accommodates tourists of all ages while appealing to locals.
