New England Fall Family Beach Vacations - My Family Travels

Looking for New England fall family beach vacations that are an alternative to leaf peeping? Once the shopping malls start stocking Christmas wreaths, get into the autumn spirit at one of these family beach destinations, where rates tumble like the leaves.

A Massachusetts beach vacation in October? Yes, we know it’s off season. But it’s still a beach-like envirnoment and a fun, restful family vacation getaway for those on a budget.

Cape Codder Resort in Hyannis, Massachusetts

Family amenities at the Cape Codder Resort start with the resort’s invigorating indoor water park. Try spa treatments and check out the live music on weekends. Standard rooms range from parking lot to water park views, and all have a small fridge, free WiFi and the option for room service. Big families will want a Family Suite, which sleeps up to 6 with one bedroom, two bathrooms, queen pull-out sofabed and dining room that doubles as a Murphy bed. Talk about a place to spread out for a New England fall family beach vacation!

Families who are huddled inside during the school week will most appreciate the fun waterpark, covered for use in all seasons. Recent reviews note that some of the slides are not working as expected, but it’s well managed by the lifeguard staff. Attractions include an indoor wave pool and slides — including a three-story play lighthouse — waterfalls, whirlpools, saunas and a pirate-themed kiddie pool. There’s a “stormy” lazy river and, for dry play, a games room with arcade. There’s also a heated outdoor pool open year round. The small spa does mother-daughter pedicures. Perfect for a chilly Cape Cod weekend.

Available now through the fall, based on availability, are several packages that include meals, spa discounts and other perks to enjoy the resort during the colder off season.

For a $332 per night, for example, a double queen room sleeping four (or five if you pay the $20 extra cot fee) also includes a $10 meal voucher and four passes to the waterpark complex. You’ll need to use a AAA or AARP membership to get this rate — ideal for a grandparent – grandchild getaway or a skip-gen weekend.

While it’s hard to stretch those dollars during a summer visit to anywhere on Cape Cod, some not-to-be-missed vacation deals allow travelers to take in the plunging rock formations, crystalline waters and buttery lobster rolls off the southern coast of Massachusetts.

One popular option for value New England fall family beach vacations is the fully stocked condos at the Southcape Resort Mashpee a Ramada by Wyndham. Located close to the water and white sands of South Cape Beach State Park, this resort has indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts, a gym, sauna and playground. It’s located near shopping at Mashpee Commons, the greens of Quashnet Valley Country Club and just a ferry ride from Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. Midweek rates are in the $200 range for a family of four and they have a 3rd night free deal after a two-night stay this fall.

The crisp autumn air and vibrant foliage of the surrounding landscape make this North Falmouth destination worth the hour drive from Boston. Hoping for a New England fall family beach vacation? Families may be able to make use of the outdoor swimming pool and there’s always a kids pool and an indoor one. In good weather, count on beach games, watersports and some yoga classes. The live music that’s so popular on summer weekend evenings may go on till late September; call them at 508-540-9400 to check before booking. on Friday nights.

Sea Crest is kicking off their fall season by offering various hotel stay packages. We like their Stay More, Save More offer which offers special savings to those who stay a little longer. For example, if you stay 3-4 nights you’ll save up to 20% off per night. Stay 5 nights or more to save up to 25% off per night.

I loved Japan before I visited there– loved their video games, TV shows, martial arts, and amazing sword fights. But my only contact with Japan was through the Internet. Reading Japanese comic books (Manga) and watching Japanese cartoons (Anime) are my favorite pastime. So on Christmas day, when my parents gave me a book about Japanese culture, I was happy. When I opened the book and discovered the plane tickets inside, I was ecstatic.

In preparation for the trip, we took Japanese language lessons from a private tutor. By the time the trip rolled around I was eager to practice my new skills.

After landing in Narita airport, our first stop was the Zen Bed and Breakfast in Asakusa, Tokyo. My formal Japanese greeting impressed the owners. In the mornings, we had breakfast with them. I had never had rice and soup for breakfast before. Being a very picky eater, I rarely try anything new. But in Japan, I was determined to try everything. These home cooked breakfasts were the best meals we had on our trip.

Excellent post – thank you – there is a lot to digest. We did the Alsace tour last year, which was fantastic, to tour the Rhine too. It is stunning in summer, which I hadn’t anticipated – I’ve always seen it in photos, beautiful in winter with the snow all around.

A cruise like this is fantastic, taking in many beautiful ports and coasts, but what it misses, is the vast amount of country and culture that is further inland. While the coastal areas of Europe are stunning, a family would be missing out on a lot of experiences further inland, like Toulouse, lakes of Croatia and many more

When we travel on road trips, getting our cars maintained is always our top priority! It’s never predictable what’s going to happen on the road once our car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. It was a very informative read, as well as the tips that followed!

  • If you make it out to Key West, definitely try to eat at El Siboney Restaurant. They have delicious, authentic Cuban food. Would highly recommend.
