Couples retreat to Killington’s Red Clover Inn for a warm welcome and easy access to nearby ski slopes, the hills or the golf course.
Nestled in the Green Mountains near Killington, Vermont, The Red Clover Inn & Restaurant provides a charming New England experience. The restored 1840s Inn and Carriage House offers 14 accommodations for skiers, hikers, bikers and those looking for a relaxing getaway, nature retreat or group gathering.
Managed by the Tyler Family, whose sister property, The Tyler Place, is one of FTF’s favorite family resorts, it has a low-key, warm atmosphere and a staff who reach out to make guests feel at home.
While children over age 8 are welcome, Red Clover is geared towards adults and couples, and would make for a great romantic getaway, mother-daughter, sisters, or girlfriend weekend. And destination weddings are big here too.
Accommodations range from rooms with a queen-sized bed and private bath, to rooms with king-sized bed, private bath, double Jacuzzi tub, gas fireplace, deck or balcony. The larger rooms can accommodate a third person on a roll-away bed. Freshly-prepared breakfast and afternoon tea featuring local products are included in the rates.
After an active (or inactive) day, guests gather in the Great Room to enjoy the mountain views and a cocktail or glass of wine while feeling cozy around the fireplace. Games, books, and a selection of DVDs are available.
Farm to Table Dining
“Foodies” will be especially pleased with the dining options at The Red Clover. Chef Dennis Vieira, who was trained in Italy and France, uses fresh ingredients from local farms in his casual Tavern as well in the Fine Dining Room. With the resources from area farm partners, he creates amazing salads, vegetable and side dishes along with beef, pork, fish, duck, quail and other poultry creations.
There is an extensive wine list from wineries throughout the area and the world. Be sure to leave room for dessert with ingredients like wild Maine blueberries, local maple syrup and area cheeses. The restaurants are gathering spots for guests of RCI, as well as locals, and guests of other area inns because of their gourmet reputation.
Exploring Vermont
In winter, activities range from cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and sledding on property, to downhill skiing at nearby Killington and Pico slopes (free shuttle is provided). Spring, summer and fall offer numerous nearby walking, hiking and biking trails (mountain biking lessons are offered and maps are provided), foliage tours, farm tours, bonfires, a hot tub and shopping opportunities; an indoor pool, fitness center, indoor tennis courts, yoga and golf are nearby.
Spa treatments such as facials, body scrubs, body wraps and various massages can be arranged, and are performed on premise. If you need guidance in planning your activities, help is right at hand from the friendly staff, who are anxious to share their love of the area with you.
The Red Clover Inn & Restaurant is located at 7 Woodward Road, Mendon VT 05751 (802/775-2290). Rooms begin at $125 per night and suites at $195/night. There’s a free shuttle to/from Rutland train station and airport making the inn suitable for planning a group celebration like a family reunion, wedding or civil union.

Wow, that’s a great list. The Free Tours By Foot sounds amazing and such a great way to explore a city. Have you guys ever tried indoor skydiving? It’s not cheap, but it’s a great activity for the whole family. Some of the centers even offer a Virtual Reality experience.
