Review of Club Med Cancun Yucatan and Family Facilities

I didn’t think the words remote and Cancun could be in the same sentence, but the Club Med Cancun Yucatan is just that. This convenient, all-inclusive resort is so peacefully isolated and eco-friendly, that your family will feel far, far away.

Club Med wisely chose this location for one of Cancun’s first resorts in 1976. Today, the 22 acres of beach, reef, and mangrove on the Nizuc Peninsula create a signature village that’s unique. An adults-only resort for decades, Cancun Club Med was remodeled to accommodate families and has wowed multigenerational groups ever since.

They’ve just completed another multi-million dollar renovation and expansion. In addition to three beautiful white sand beaches and proximity to the world’s second largest coral reef, there’s a new main pool. The 436-room resort is one of the brand’s tops for families, a favorite on TripAdvisor, and FamilyVacationCritic.com’s pick for Mexico’s Top 10 Resort.

The Club Med Difference

If you’ve never been swept up in a Club Med experience, it may be tough to understand it. Picture how the gracious G.O.s (their staff), a roster of activities and classes, delicious food, and joie de vivre make for a special vacation. The Cancun Village, for example, operates on Club Med Time. They ignore daylight savings Time in order to have more hours of sun for their guests.

It’s all-inclusive of course, so you don’t have to worry about what anyone’s spending on food and booze. There are three indoor-outdoor bars, with plenty of mom Margaritas and Coronas, but the emphasis is more on fun than on getting smashed. There’s live nightly entertainment and, at midnight, a signature line dance that guests are encouraged to join, as the Club Med theme song is played at resorts around the world.

Cancun Club Med Accommodations to Suit Every Style and Budget

Choose from a variety of rooms and suites catering to different preferences and budgets. The original Exclusive Collection wings showcase a charming retro-Mexican style with vibrant colors and traditional accents. These rooms share a private lounge area where you can meet other guests after a day at the beach. Some connect to form larger suites and all cater to families with kids ages 8 and older.

For a more luxurious experience, the Sea View Family Suites boast a pirvate living room plus stunning ocean or garden views. These can be combined into larger, multigenerational suites.

Jade is Precious, Even at Club Med

The very chic Jade Exclusive Collection wing is where you would expect to see reality TV stars and investment bankers. The “get” here is privacy, plenty of it.

The recently refreshed luxury Jade wing provides an exclusive retreat with elegant rooms and an infinity pool. There’s a separate reception and concierge, plus a separate lounge with snacks, beverages, and treats.

The Jade oceanview room we saw had a romantic interior bathing area lit by candles, inspiring romance. Only a few of these rooms connect to two-bedroom family units. However, single rooms are ideal for new parents who want to cuddle while baby naps.

Dining is a Big Part of the Club Med Experience

Indulge in the culinary offerings at Club Med Cancun, where healthy and delicious dining takes center stage. The resort features several restaurants serving a variety of cuisines, ranging from authetic Mexican specialities to an international menu. La Hacienda offers a tempting buffet three times a day, with both indoor and outdoor seating.

La Estancia, another example, is a gourmet steakhouse where you may want to dress up a bit for dinner.

In contrast, Taco Arte is a beachfront lounge where the family will want to try breakfast. Since it’s an all-inclusive, you can sample all the hand-crafted tacos and fresh guacamole yoru heart desires. There’s dining indoors in the restaurant and, for later, a bar lounge also serving tacos.

You’ll have plenty of time to sample the resort bars, and stop by Taco Arte at dusk. Their new wine cellar has a selection of à la carte wines to accompany your guacamole.

Activities for All Ages

Night Markets showcase Mexican folk arts and great souvenirs for all ages.

Club Med Cancun caters to all ages, with engaging programs for children and teens. The Petit Club welcomes children aged 2-3, while the Mini Club caters to ages 4-10. Our family loved Passworld which caters to ages 11-17. The resort offers a wide range of activities, including water sports, tennis, trapeze arts, and even scuba lessons at the pool.

Club Med Amazing Family! is a new program designed by the GOs to bring all the generations together with age-appropriate games, activities and recreation.

Beyond the resort, embark on exciting family adventures, such as exploring the rich Mayan culture at nearby historical sites like Tulum and Chichen-Itza. The resort also offers various excursions, from swimming with dolphins to shopping in Playa del Carmen.

One great Club Med benefit for athletic types is the availability of sports that usually cost a fortune at other resorts. Picture water skiing, windsurfing, wakeboarding or scuba lessons at the pool at no extra charge. Your family will love kayaking, snorkeling and sailing. If land suits you better, try trapeze arts, tennis — they are part of the deal here.  (Golf, deep sea fishing, and scuba are off-site and cost extra.)

The well-trained G.O.s work with willing guests regardless of their skill level. Any guest with a physical disability or mental challenge can try too. This makes Club Med a great place for grandparents to introduce grandkids to a sport they love.

What about when you want to play together? There are open courts for basketball, beach soccer, bocce, and beach volleyball, as well as facilities for ping pong, foosball, and water polo. If you don’t want to show off in front of the kids, go off on your own.  At Club Med, we’ve found the counselors just terrific. In our family, kids would rather be in the program with new friends than hang out with their parents.

All in the Family Pursuits at Club Med

It’s silly to go all the way to Cancun and not experience the extraordinary Mayan culture. Evidence is close by at Tulum and Chichen-Itza, among many other Mayan sites. There are a few half and full-day sightseeing options every day. Club Med offers programs like swimming with dolphins or shopping in Playa del Carmen. Our picks are visiting the UNESCO World Heritage Site at Chichen-Itza and a dusk ride in a power boat.

We took the guided, half-day excursion to Tulum, followed by a fun waterborne tour of the Kantun Chi cenote (underground river) and a delicious taco lunch catered by Club Med G.O.s.

To plan your ideal family vacation at Club Med Cancun Yucatan, visit the official Club Med website or consult a travel agent. Keep in mind that kids pricing is very fair. Room guests up to age 36 months stay free. Take 50% off the rate for kids 4-11 years and 20% off fees for ages 12-15 years. Be sure to book well in advance, especially during peak seasons. It’s hard to secure your preferred accommodations and take advantage of any special offers.

So, the Club Med difference should be evident after 1,500 words. In closing, I suggest you reserve a massage on arrival so you can dive right in. Then book another one before departure… to work out any sore muscles from discovering the new you.

It’s important to be aware of some upcoming closures for renovations:

  • From September 2nd to October 18th, 2024: The Aguamarina common areas (pool, bar, reception) will be closed.
  • From May 5th to July 11th, 2025: The beach bar, plaza, main pool & deck will be closed.

Check with the hotel directly to confirm which facilities will be available during your stay.

I have run short on space, yet I managed to squeeze in about 3/4ths of my trip.

Lordsburg and Demming are in New Mexico (I guess I should have edited that), and there are numerous other details I would have liked to have included….

If you're interested in traveling in my footsteps, I highly recommend the Togwotee Lodge and Resort, which is where we stayed during our trip.

While visiting Paris the summer I was fourteen, I was captivated my by its beauty. The city's rich culture, diverse people, and turbulent history fascinated me and captured my imagination. It was there that I discovered the wonder of adventure, and my never-ending love of Paris.

I almost did not go on this trip, worrying about what could go wrong, that summer would nearly be over when I returned, and how much it cost. But, I decided to take this trip to see a few of my German friends and their families, not knowing when, otherwise, I would see them again if I didn't take this opportunity. Now that I have returned home, I am very happy to have taken this trip.

My name is Inemesit Effiong.I am an avid reader and an ardent Colin Firth fan. I love outdoor activities, writing poetry, and volunteering. I have had the privilege of volunteering with several clubs like National Honor Society, Rotary Club, Interact Volunteer Club, and The Bridge Run. I enjoy watching Jeopardy with my father (mostly because of Alex Trebek) and I hope to pursue Nursing as a major. I entered this contest because I love exploring and I fell that my experience is very relatable, especially to teenagers my age, who would like to travel abroad, but lack the means or opportunity to do so.

I raised money for this trip during the course of my Freshman year, first by a Bake Sale, which raised over $700, then by giving out poetry that I had written in exchange for donations. They expereince broadened me as a leader and created lasting friendships with other cultures.

My vacation to Spain in general was one of the most enjoyable things I have ever done. The culture was rich and the archetecture was far more ornate than anything I've ever seen in the United States. I will defenately go back there some day if I am fortunate enough.

This blog was very fun to write, it let me reevaluate what had happened during the trip and laugh about it once again. Maybe it will inspire someone else to do what what my family did and go through the indescribable little horrors that we all went through. Happy traveling!

I wish I could have written more about Germany, but summing up a vacation such as that in only 600 words seemed impossible to me. I would have never guessed I would have learned so much about myself there. We did activitivities I would never seen myself doing in a million years. Many of the students that went on the trip I would not normally be friends with, but at the end of the day no matter how different we were from one another, we were all friends and family to eachother and still keep in touch till this day. I don't know when I will be able to go on such an amazing adventure again, but my advice to whoever comes across this is, if you have the oppritunity, take it. Even if you are apprehensive, take the risk because I'm willing to bet you will learn so much more.

Thank you all for reading this and best of luck to everyone who entered this contest! smiley

We love going to the Hawaiian Islands.  Maui was one of our favorites.  Molokini Crater is just off of the Maui coast.  I couldn't believe at the variety of fish we snorkeled with–we even glimpsed a reef shark!  Snorkeling at Molokini Crater was a great experience and was the inspiration for this short essay.

The reason for my visit to Nigeria was because of a death in my family. In the attatched picture, I am in the middle, surrounded by my family members as we walked toward the area where the ceremony was to be held. The whole experience of visiting Nigeria a third time (but as a teenager) opened my eyes and made me realize that there are things in the world bigger than just me and my problems, and it's my job to find a way to give back before time runs out.
