My trip to Canada | My Family Travels

At the Windsor High every year the Gospel and Chamber choirs, along with the band, take a trip to a music competition outside of the state of Connecticut. Since my years at the school we have been to Virginia Beach, Myrtle Beach, Canada, and Pennsylvania, every year coming home with first place trophies, and up until this year I have looked at all of the trips to be the same, but now my trip to Canada means something different. While in Canada we visited the CN Tower, Niagara Falls and Dolly Parton’s Dixie stampede, where we stayed for the show. While visiting Niagara Falls there was something different and special that I felt about being there and it made me feel good.

My friends and I all took pictures in front of the falls and under the falls, and then I took one by myself in front of the falls, feeling so refreshed and free. After taking the pictures and getting them developed I didn’t think of them anymore until this year. This year I met someone from Canada. We became very good friends and started dating.

During this time that we were beginning to get to know each other he began to share with me how his mother died when he was two while they were living in Canada and he also told me how he had a picture of his mother, from his grandmother, standing in front of the falls. I shared with him how I took a picture of myself standing in front of the falls and I showed him the picture. As he began to look at the picture his eyes began to well up with tears because he said it looked just like his mother did in her picture with the same pose and everything.

He later showed me the picture and I could even see what he was talking about. This moment was one of the most special times that I will always remember and hold with me forever. I knew that being at the falls was something special but I would’ve never imagined this to be it.

All the fun that I had on that trip does not compare to how much it meant to my friend, and I can definitely say, that was one of the best choir trips I had during my years at Windsor High School.
