My trip to New York City - My Family Travels

When I was around six years old my mom took a trip to NY. Before she left she promised me that for my 16th birthday she would allow me to travel anywhere I desired (so long as it remained in the United States). I kept her to that promise and am finally here.

It is my first time ever in the city of lights. New York has always been the city of my dreams but I can’t believe that I am in her presence. After a seemingly long taxi ride from the airport I catch a glimpse of the paramount skyline which is unique to New York.

Then we (my Mom, Aunt, Grandma and I) get to our hotel, unpack and we are now on our way into the nightlife of New York. As we are walking down Broadway, the reminiscence of the day’s rainfall is all around us. I can see the building next to me with tears dripping off its dark marble wall.

The air is sweet with fragrance of newly fallen sky. The moisture in the air is heavy on my shoulders as I walk through Times Square. I look up to the heavens hoping to get a glimpse of the jewels of the night winking at me, only to see the bright billboards meant to catch the eye.

The brilliant lights over my head make the blackest of nights seem as if they are the brightest of days. I walk and listen to the hum of life going on around me. I hear the culture around me as people talk in their native tongues.

The whole world seems to be represented on this one street. The nearby honk of a local taxi makes me turn, but it is lost in the sea of yellow on the street. The aroma of hotdogs and pretzels swim around me as I pass a vendor on the corner.

The salty twisted breads lure me in as they sit there ready to be eaten. Sitting on a hard bench, I dip my newly bought pretzel into the warm cheese sauce and my mouth waters. Touching the salty goodness to my taste buds my mouth turns into a paradise.

I look up again for the stars and there, dancing in the night, one can be seen. My short time here has been great so far. New York City is like a dream.

A dream which I never want to wake from.
