My Trip to the Big Apple - My Family Travels

It was days before school was going to open back up and I was super excited, but my family didn’t go anywhere for the summer! My aunt, the person always on-the-go, decided she would help my family and I out by planning a one-day trip! ‘Where are we going?’ I asked. ‘To the Big Apple!’ my Mother said. And, boy was I excited! Later that week, my aunt made all the preparations, and my Mom, sister, her boyfriend, and I prepared for our trip to New York.

But, was I really prepared for what my aunt did for us? It turned out that my aunt, not only prepared for us to go, but she was going; as well as her daughter, a friend she knew, her husband, and two of my other cousins! My Mother had no idea that so many of us would be going. But, we would still go on the trip. So that Friday my sister and I went to sleep, excited for the early morning to come! We had to awaken at six am to drive to my aunt’s home to park our car, and we would pick up the others in a van that my aunt rented for the trip.

So off we went to pick up the friend, her husband, and my two cousins. My aunt’s friend and her husband were in their older years, and I imagine that sitting in a van for hours at a time would be pretty hard for an older man to do, but, he didn’t even get in the van before he began to complain! His wife tried to persuade him to come with us, but he wouldn’t budge, and neither of them decided to go! So, we picked up my two cousins and off we were to New York! The ride was long, and most of were asleep most of the way. Finally I awoke to a loud scream; ‘Oh gosh! We’re in New Yorkkkkkk!’ I took a look out of the window, and I loved it at first sight! We were minutes away from Manhattan, and then we could get out of that cramped van and see the sights! When we finally arrived in the city, my aunt had to find a place to park the van, and that took forever.

When she finally found a parking deck and paid the parking fee, we all were so pumped to get out and shop! And that’s what we did. My sister, her boyfriend, and I went one way, my Mom, aunt, and cousins went another. Everything turned out amazing, except for what happened went my sister, her boyfriend, and I went to the store Conaway.

In the store, there is an escalator to shop on the second floor and my sister wanted to check it out. I, on the other hand, am terrified of escalators, and I refused to go, and began to cry when she tried to make me. I felt so embarrassed that I was standing there that I didn’t want to wait beside the escalator.

I walked away and began shop around the rest of the store. Approximately thirty minutes later, I heard my name being called out loudly behind me. I turned around, and it was my sister, and she looked extremely upset with me! She grabbed me by the arm and asked me where I had been.

I told her that I didn’t want to stand by the escalator and that I started to shop for clothes while they looked on the second floor. She was upset because she didn’t want me to leave that area, but when she returned and saw that I was gone, she thought I left the store completely! Even though I apologized and explained to her why I did leave the escalator, she was still angry. But, we put the situation aside, for the sake of trying to have fun on the trip.

But soon, our trip had to end. We all called each other on our cellular phones to meet up at Macy’s, and off we went back to the van. We all told each other what we got, and hugely thanked my aunt for the wonderful time we had.

Through the complaints and arguments, we had a lot of fun, and I hope to go on a trip to the Big Apple again!
