My Families Trip to Yosemite National Park | My Family Travels

My family is unique for Louisiana. We own an indoor rock climbing gym in a state that is devoid of natural rock, and naturally, rockclimbers. It is no coincidence that my family took a vacation to the Climbing Mecca, Yosimite National Park.

With its astounding natural beauty and phenominal climbing opportunities, the Sierra Mountains is the spiritual home to climbers from around the world. During our trip, my family found that Yosemite is not only a home to climbers, but to birders, and swimmers, hikers, and anyone who can appreciate beauty. My father and I climbed every day while my mother sat in a meadow of wildflowers, reading and meditating.

My sister loved swimming in the Tuolomne River, as well as the Tioga Lake. During our trip, my father and I climbed Cathedral Peak. We woke up at five am to get to the climbing site before other climbers, and so we could take the steep six mile hike slowly.

At the base of the climb we rested and organized our gear. As I ate my power bar, a marmot ran towards us looking for food and a Grey Catbird perched in a nearby pine. I had no idea that I was about to witness the most devistatingly life changing view within the next four hours.

The climb was long, but fun as we tracked up the rock. First my dad would climb up fifty feet while I belyaed him from underneath, then he would belay me up after him. The last pitch was exciting.

I wanted to see the view from the top. as i pulled myself over the top, my heart swelled with emotion and love for this place. The view from the top of Cathedral Peak, 10,911 feet in elevation, was and is my spiritual home.

Looking down over the twisting rivers, glassy lakes, snowy mountains, and wispy meadows was a life altering experience. From that moment on, I only had to imagine the top of cathedral peak to make myself smile.
