This past summer, I went on vacation to Jackson, Mississippi. My vacation was not your average, run-of-the-mill vacation. My vacation was actually a mission trip, organized through Catholic Heart Workcamp.
Instead of just hanging out all summer, I did hours of volunteer work with and for people I did not know. To pay for such an opportunity, I assisted in raising over $25,000. That included my camp fee, my transportation and the expenses of the other 44 people going along.
When we arrived in Jackson, we realized there was a lot to be done. Our group got mixed in with the other 200 or so people and created groups of six and seven to serve others even faster. We spent five days in Jackson continuously volunteering and praising Jesus’ name.
It was the most fun I have ever had. It taught me many things, including ‘take care of what you have when you have it because it can be gone as soon as you don’t take care.’ I think that this was the best vacation one could ever hope for — fun and serving the needy.
