This summer my family and I took a trip to beautiful Spain. On the way there, of course everybody was excited. Even waking up at four in the morning did not bother me too much.
Spain was everything I imagined it to be and much more. However, I did not expect my trip to change my life. Being on vacation, it felt normal going to a cafe on a Wednesday afternoon, but then I looked around me.
The Spanish citizens also sat there drinking coffee and talking to friends. It was weird to me because back in California we always waited for the weekends to arrive in order to go out. Life at home was usually just a routine: wake up, go to school, come home, finish homework, and go back to bed.
Everyone always worked hard to try to get the best grades. Not that there is anything wrong with working hard, it is just that we never really took the time to enjoy our surroundings. Life was pretty much just a big competition.
Going to Spain helped me realize that I cannot live like that anymore. Spain taught me that life is too short to make it into a routine.
