Little boys and girls screaming, my ears ringing, the air singing — my time had finally come. Most kids wait a whopping four years for this sort of encounter, but me, I’ve been waiting my whole life — well my whole kid life — for this ‘experience of a lifetime’s the commercials promised. And boy did they deliver! It was ‘the most magical place on Earth,’ it was none other than Disney World.
I can remember back when I was just five feet tall with chubby cheeks and a wide-eyed smile, and my friends would all talk about how amazing Disney World was. The shows, the rides, the overall sites, it was like a Thanksgiving buffet in the middle of summer, and all the kids were going back for seconds! This was just two years ago. I was fifteen years old and I had yet to experience one of the most talked about enchantments.
I begged and pleaded to my mom to take me like she had my brothers when they were only four and eight years old, but she merely retorted how I WAS there to experience the roar of the wheels, the chanting of children, and even the tasty treats because she was pregnant with me at the time. Oh, and there’s nothing better than experiencing the thrill of Disney World than through the muffled insides of a tightly compressed space with slimy intestines. Unless, of course, you get to experience the thrill in person, which I finally got to do when I was sixteen years old. A lot had changed in that one passing year, but I still contained my wide-eyed smile, only it had grown to an ear-to-ear grin once I took my first breath of Disney World air.
I kept looking forward, my eyes glued to the prize — all that I had yet to see. Then, at the end of the night, I looked where I hadn’t all evening — left and right — and right then and there I got this pang of pure joy and happiness; right then and there I knew what it meant for parents to see the sparkle in their loved ones eyes, because I saw it in my mother’s. The reason? I mean she had been to Disney World once before with my brothers. Then I knew. I was the reason.
Knowing that I, her daughter, was having the time of her life filled my mom with pure bliss and delight. Little did my mom know, the fact that I got to share this unforgettable day with her made it the ‘experience of a lifetime’ that the commercials guaranteed. Needless to say, Disney World was truly ‘the most magical place on Earth’ and the best trip I will ever take.
