Family Vacation | My Family Travels

Anxiously, I await for the sun to peak over the waves. As the sun rises, so do all the animals. Dolphins are gliding and jumping up through the gleaming waves. Hundreds of jellyfish are washed up on the shore from the tide of the night. Scattered all over the beach are all different color and sized sea shells. Smells from restaurants and tanning oil fill the air.

The shiny sand feels of at least 110 degrees. The bright multi-colored umbrellas quickly fill up as everybody races for the few spots that are left in the shade. A group of twelve college students play volleyball, while a small family builds massive castles in the sand. Boogie boarders surf the rising waves that quickly close in on the shore. Walking hand in hand, an older couple stroll the shore oblivious of the fast paced world around them.

At the close of the fun filled day all the quaint sand castles and small footprints are left deserted. I walk the endless beach in the calming sunset, feeling the heat from the sand rise from an endless day of cloudless skies. Nothing can compare to the beautiful orange glow the sun lays on the streaming ripples of the boundless ocean. I slowly inhale all the fresh air that the big blue ocean has to offer on such an extraordinary night.

Concentrating on how your tired feet slowly sink into the swallowing sand, as if it is nature’s way of making you slow down. At last I reach the white shabby looking building, also known as The Crab Shack. As I walk the short stairway to the top, I realize there is a little face staring at me. It was the sweet, loving face of my little brother, along with the rest of my family.

As I sit at the small round table, I watched the big orange ball slowly sink behind the rise and fall of the water. Shortly afterwards, we left the small restaurant to head back to our three bedroom condo. Everybody in our big family grabbed their own nets and we went back to the moonlit beach for some interesting crab hunting.

I listened to the dark waters of the ocean slowly crash upon the foot imprinted beach. The once silent beach was now filled with excitement and scurrying of little children’s feet. As I sit there in the cool sand gazing at the reflection of the glowing moon on the tides of the night, I realize this is where I find my solitude and peace.
