Just recently in June I went to Virginia Beach with my three cousins, aunt, and my uncle. When we arrived there we went to our beach front hotel. We had a suite, so it made the stay nice! Well, the trip was very interesting, exciting, and memorable, one I won’t forget.
The first two days we were there we enjoyed the beautiful beach, boardwalk, and the entertainment! We met Zack, a ‘local’ in Virginia. He showed us around and told us all about the city. The next day was another several hours at the beach, swimming, shopping, and eating.
Afterwords we all went back to our suite and enjoyed company from my cousin, Steven, and his two kids. They came to visit us because he was on leave from Iraq. I hadn’t seen him in about four years! It was really nice to catch up with him after all that time.
The next night we were all in our hotel room and I asked my cousin, Sara, if she wanted to go get a smoothie on the boardwalk, but she didn’t want to. Shortly after my cousin Steven and I heard sort of a faint ‘pop’ sound. We looked at eachother and walked out the door and looked out onto the boardwalk.
When we got out there, there were guys running and we heard another, ‘pop, pop pop, pop pop!!!’ My cousin was like,’It’s fireworks’, and I said,’People don’t run from fireworks Sara, someone was shot!’ After that Sara, Steven and I went down to the scene because we are all certified in CPR, First Aid, AED, and Oxygen. When we went down, there were several bystanders and the man shot was also a bystander himself. A man wrapped his belt around the victim’s leg.
Shortly after, we went back to our hotel scared of what would happen. Minutes later the car that the shots were fired from was being chased by several policeman and was eventually caught! The scariest part of the story was that if my cousin and I would have gone down to get a smoothie, it could have been us. The man shot was in front of the smootie shop.
It shows how quick anything can happen and if you have the ability to help, do it. Also knowing you have the ability to help someone when a bad situation occurs is a great feeling also. It is a great scense of pride!
