En France, Le Pays D'Amour | My Family Travels

I’ve never been a big world traveler, but when those wheels left the ground I knew that was it. I was on my way to Paris, France – a fantasy world filled with love and romance. I’d heard that dreams were made there, that love was found there.

My bags were packed, filled to the brim with useless things I knew I’d never need. Bags checked, parents kissed, aircraft doors closed, wheels up, take off. I’ve never been a flyer, but could fight off air sickness if necessary.

However, as the hours went by, the plane ride felt like nothing…until I saw it. Shining in rust and steal glory, towering many meters in the air, I saw her. She was like an angel who’s arms were wide welcoming me home, she was beautiful in the light.

Never in my short life had I seen anything so magical. The wheels touched again and I was back to real life. I ran off the plane and suddenly it occurred to me.

The world around me was written in the most beautiful language in the world. I would be 11 days before I saw my steal God again, due to the trip to Le Havre that was preceding my one day in Paris. I counted those days in the back of an old notebook, drawing little pictures of Her over the numbers as they slowly ticked by.

The eleventh day, I woke up and, as vain as it was, spent 2 hours getting ready for Her. I was completely aware that she couldn’t tell me apart from the other millions that touch her floor, but to me, it was something special. This was a chance of a lifetime, to see a landmark, a beauty so sought after.

She was everything I’d hoped her to be; Beautiful in everyway. I rode her elevator, walked on her ground, looked over her edge. Hesitantly, I inscribed my name onto her rail, feeling rebellious.

I was trying to leave my mark in this beautiful city, hoping that someday, when I’m no longer here to tell of this time, someone will see my name etched into Her side, and feel the brilliance, and the magic just as I did standing before her.
