Traveling Abroad - My Family Travels
(In the tune of the song “”)
((Fast and Upbeat and a little bit country))
Every kid once in their life, dreams of goin’ o’er seas.
They want to go to Europe, especially in their teens.
Well this kid’s name is Mary and I had my dream come true.
In the summer of ’08, I traveled over water blue.
My group and I from Richards went to three foreign countries;
However, the language barrier for us, couldn’t reach pass “please?”!
It was fun to feel a culture shock, in a land I did not know.
For the only time I’d been to Europe prior, was watching Indiana Jones.
We saw the London Bridge, and the men in funny hats.
And a friend of mine had a hissy fit from seeing no aristocrats.
We went around in circles on the London EYE
And the great Big Ben tower isn’t very high.
Once we got to Paris is was such a great delight
Except we only made it to the Eiffel Tower’s second flight.
I traveled on a big blue barge, that toured the city lights
And to think, this was only the fifth night!
Well, that sixth cool day came around, we went to Germany
On an overnight train. And lemme tell ya: space was not plenty.
It’s not very roomy like the kind in Harry Potter
Ours was kind of crowded. . . and much much hotter!
But we all survived the trip and made it to our spot.
Now if only we could shower, but our tour guide advised us not.
“We cannot miss a moment, of the historical Berlin.”
As I looked around the city, I let my journy just begin.
We always read about the famous sites, such as the Berlin wall.
But seeing it up close, made other things seem small.
The emotion running through my body brings saddness and regret.
But the day they took it down is a day we won’t forget.
Sadly Berlin marked the end of this endevour
But the sites and memories will be engraved forever and ever.
On the long flight home,we told tales and stories from afar.
But the landing at O’Hare I say, was a bit bizarre.
Of course the day was windy; hence that famous nickname.
Our plane had to circle round for a second aim.
The landing was a bit bumpy, most passengers agree.
For when we finally touched the ground, we landed on our knees!
As fun as Europe could be, we all missed our parents.
And never will we forget that lovely pizza scent.
I waited at least twenty minutes to reclaim my bag.
And s soon as I got home, went to sleep off . . . jet lag.
