It’s summer time and we’re boarding the plane that will take us to our connecting flight in Chicago. I cannot sit still. After two years apart I get to see one of my friends who is like a sister to me. We met in 2006 when I participated in the Ulster Project. Gillian was the girl that stayed with us for a month. Now I get to see her again. We get on the plane and the captain tells us that we must wait for 45 minutes before take off. My sister and I groan. We want to leave now. Finally we leave. When we arrive in Chicago we have to wait 3 hours before our plane arrives to take us to Dublin, Ireland. We cannot sit still on the plane. We fly over night but none of us sleep. When we arrive my sister and I bounce off the plane and through the airport. We bounce through the three hour drive to Belfast, Northern Ireland. When we pull up to our friend Jessica’s house I hear a loud scream as my sister jumps out of the still rolling car. Jessica is the girl who stayed with my sister. We spent all day touring her town of Dundonald. The next day we took a trip into Belfast to the city centre and went to Victoria Square. It was amazing. The view from the top floor of the shopping center when almost all the way around the city. The next day I spent with my parents. We went to Cave hill and Belfast Castle. Later we went to Carricfurgus castle. They had figures stationed around the castle as a way of showing what would go on in different rooms. The next day we went to Bangor to do some shopping. It rained but we kept on shopping. I bought a pair of shoes for 4 pounds which is 8 dollars. The next day I went to Gillian’s house. She wasn’t as thrilled to see me as I was to see her. The next several days we went sight seeing and she came along. We went to Carrick a rede rope bridge and then Giant’s Causeway. Giant’s Causeway is one of the 8 wonders of the world. It was absolutely breathe taking. We went shopping again in Belfast at a store called Pre Mark. Everything was so cheap. I spent almost a hundred dollars there. We went to New castle and the Mourne Mountains. So pretty. My mom climbed over a resvoir wall to see what was on the other side. Then she couldn’t get back over the wall so we had to pull her up. 3 days before we left we went to dublin. The first day I had a stomach virus so I spent the whole day at the hotel. The next day we went on a tour of Dublin and got to see Kilmaignham Goal. It was one of the jails that housed political prisoners of the 1916 rebellion in Ireland. It was so fascinating to see everything. I learned that sometimes the people you think you are close to, you really aren’t. Gillian turned out to be a lousy friend and so I found out that Jessica was much more happy to see me. Sometimes it’s not where you are but who you are with that counts. Although Gillian wasn’t a good friend, it still turned out to be the best vacation of my life. I can’t wait to go back and visit Jessica again. Her family is my second family now.
