Jamaica - My Family Travels

I’m Kearistin VanCleave, on spring break my family and I went on a cruise to Jamaica. Already knowing what I wanted to do, once I arrived on the ship all my plans changed. First, I got to the room and my luggage didn’t arrive until four. When I got my stuff it arrived in a bucket because my suitcase zipper broke. Noticing that few items were there I had to buy new clothing in the ship’s shops.

After I stored my clothes in the closet I went onto the deck in my new swimsuit. Heading to the elevator to get to the Jacuzzi my mother stops me to advise me to check into the teen club. When I got to the club there were two long lines, I got into the one that seemed shorter. While in line I got into a conversation with a fellow named Caleb. Telling him that I’m about to go to the Jacuzzi he asked if he could join if there was enough time before dinner.

Finally getting to the front, a woman who worked aboard questions me about my age. She then told me that I’d got into the wrong line. She let me cut in front of all the people in the other line. Getting done with signing in I headed back to the cabin with Caleb, it was time for dinner so I left to get ready.

The next day I got my hair done. My mom wanted to take pictures. At three in the afternoon we finally got done, we then went in the lounge and watched a performance where we took more pictures. As we were leaving the show I saw Caleb who asked when I was going to the Jacuzzi. After finishing up with pictures I headed to my cabin to put on my swimsuit again, after I was done I went to Caleb’s room and we headed off.

When we arrived at the Jacuzzi the staff was cleaning it out, we then headed to the pool. At the pool there were a throng of teenagers making fun of a girl named Jasmine. The words they were saying weren’t funny at all, but Caleb started laughing so I also started laughing. Jasmine then ran off and people laughed even more.

The next few days’ people were throwing insults at her. One day I walked in the bathroom to do my hair and she was crying. Felling bad that I didn’t do anything, I walked up to her and apologized. Telling her that I never act like that she called me fake and rude. Promising that I would do something to prove I was wrong she didn’t want to believe me until she seen it.

As the cruise was coming to an end people were still insulting her. Scared of comments they might make of me I stepped up and defended her. Telling everyone that we were wrong they started laughing at me. Caleb then agreed with me making a speech that all of us having flaws, they then stopped laughing. Jasmine hugged me and we went into the club to dance. Still keeping in touch we talk about so much. Going on a cruise to Jamaica changed me so much. Learning that we shouldn’t make fun of people because they have a problem is wrong because we all have problems, also learning that peer pressure can take you places in life that you shouldn’t go. I’m Kearistin VanCleave and I will never want to bring someone down.
