Florida, the beach state, is the best place to vacation in my opinion, ever. This past summer, my family and my best friend’s family traveled down to Destin, Florida from our home in Conway, Arkansas. We planned a spontaneous road trip for the July 4th weekend to visit my best friend’s brother, who was working down there, and to visit the beach, of course. On the way, my friend and I watched movies and listened to music to pass the time. Video games are a life-saver while traveling miserably in the backseat of a car. But the 23-hour trip, there and back, was totally worth the three-day weekend we spent soaking up the sun!

Our resort, The Palms of Destin, was magnificent and complete with the biggest pool I had ever seen. It was called a “Lagoon Pool” which was composed of several pools that were all linked together. Plants growing around the edges gave the feeling of being in a real lagoon and bridges running overhead provided the perfect diving boards. My absolute favorite part of the vacation was climbing out of the pool, relaxing in a chair, and watching the fireworks over the city. The sight was beautiful. During the day, we played tennis and basketball in the open, fresh air. At night, we sat on our 3rd floor balcony and watched the lights and cars in the distance. The halls gave the feeling of living in a luxurious mansion built just for me. The room was more than good, it was great. There was enough room to fit eight of us very comfortably! Big flat screen televisions really made the video games we brought jump out and make us feel as if we were inside of them.

The beach was perfect. The shore was sparsely populated for the weekend we went, even though it was Independence Day weekend. My friends and I threw Frisbees and we threw sand. We watched and we walked. We tanned and we talked. Other vacationers were as nice and friendly as we were so we had no trouble feeling comfortable and fitting right in. We even met some people from our own city of Conway! We all had a blast enjoying the 75 degree weather, cool breeze, and refreshing drinks from the ice chest. I would surely recommend anyone looking for a getaway to go to Destin and enjoy the beauty which Florida has been luckily blessed with.
