If you haven’t been to Destin lately you’re in for a big surprise with all the new activities. If you have never been to Destin, Florida then join me now. Destin is located on highway 98 in the panhandle of Florida between Panama City and Pensacola. It is directly on the Gulf of Mexico and has beautiful beaches; one of the few beaches in the world with pure white sand.
Destin is one of the most fun destinations you will ever find for teenagers – there is so much to do. However, even the adults seem to have fun there with all the great shopping and nice restaurants. And the room accommodations are easy to find. Just google “Destin accommodations” and you will find every type room you could want – from swanky to cheap. Of course the rooms on the beach are a little more pricey but it makes the trip much more interesting to be right on the water. You can just be in the room watching TV and enjoy the view at the same time. There is always something going on out in the water or on the beach. Huge twenty foot inner tubes, Para sailors, sunbathers, sailboats, kite flyers, sand castle builders, and all sorts of other scenery to enjoy right from your room.
The first thing to do after you check into your room is to find The Track. It is right on highway 98 so easy to find and it is a blast. The Track features the ultimate in go kart track, like The Wild Woody, a three-tiered go kart/roller coaster hybrid. Race your kart around the large figure eight style Track. Challenge your friends and family to exciting themed miniature golf, splash ‘em on Blaster Boats, and smash ‘em on Bumper Cars. Test your courage from the top of the Bungee Jumping Tower, or enjoy the thrill of a skydiving effect on The Sky Flyer!
If you want to get on the water while visiting Destin there are several opportunities available. Parasailing (chute me is a good one), jet ski rental, snorkeling, deep sea fishing, glass bottom excursion and most fun is the Sea Blaster boat ride which guarantees you will get drenched! All of these fun activities are easy to find on the harbor in the middle of Destin off highway 98 and the personnel are experienced enough to help you with whatever you want to try.
Now for the eating part of your trip to Destin. The harbor is a fantastic place to eat because the restaurants have the best viewing of the fishing fleet. These boats are captained by professional fishermen and the fish sandwich you are eating was most likely caught last night on one of these vessels. It is fun to hang out at the harbor and watch the boats bring in the catch of the day and there are little shops to grab a bit or you can eat at a sit down restaurant as well. The locals like a little hole in the wall called Dewey Destin’s Fish Market. You can’t miss it right on the harbor. You will like the whole atmosphere on the harbor.
There is so much to do in Destin I can’t begin to give a full account of everything; however, there is one more place to visit that is very interesting – the Destin Fishing Museum. I know a museum doesn’t sound like anything interesting for teen-agers but I guarantee this is a good one. In fact I guarantee you trip to Destin, Florida is going to be the best vacation you could have.
