Even though I live in Florida and the place where I traveled is not very far, it has had a profound influence in my life. The magic of Walt Disney World goes deeper than the commercialistic views that most people see. I have been traveling to Walt Disney World since I was 8 weeks old, and of course I do not remember, but my family tells me that I was fascinated by the reflection in the water of the It’s a Small World ride. One trip in particular will stay with me forever.
When I was 16 years old, my grandparents and parents arranged a spectacular birthday surprise. No, this was NOT just a typical trip to Disney World, to my pleasant surprise my family had arranged several events that would change my life. On day one of the trip, we traveled to EPCOT, early, I wondered why. My family had arranged an all-day “Behind the Magic” tour. This was truly fantastic and amazing. 7-hours of one fascinating secret after another. I learned about where they stored all of their fantastic props to how to operate an animatronic. We even got to go underneath Cinderella’s castle (I had always wanted to do that) and through the main parts of the parks to learn some of Disney most secret of secrets.
The next day, on my actual 16th birthday, we had to be at the Brown Derby at Hollywood Studios for lunch. I asked myself, why so fancy?, I would be happy with a hot dog at the stand down Hollywood Boulevard. I soon found out why and am grateful that we did not have hot dogs on that particular day. My parents, myself and a handful of people had a private lunch with a Disney Imagineer. That experience was one that I will never forget.
Not only did this trip evoke the fondest of memories, but it truly inspired me to go for my dream of becoming an Imagineer at Disney. He was patient, told great stories and answered any and all questions that we had. I hope to one day be that man behind the scenes, inspiring new young visitors to achieve their dreams, as well as, to be able to design a magical experience to make all ages of people happy.
Because of the magic of Disney and this special trip. I intend to work hard in school, attend a great college and one day go on a permanent trip to Disney World. This place is truly magical and has had a spell on me since I was an infant.
