Teen Traveling writing contest | My Family Travels
oasis

It was the first time in my life that I ever got to visit Lake Travis and it was accompanied by a magnificent sun set. This trip happened two weeks before my 18th birthday, after school. Art teacher Ms. Bennett and two of my friends went to this luxurious restaurant called Oasis at Lake Travis. The main reason for this trip was to take pictures for a photography contest, offered by the restaurant to advertise the amazing view. However, I was more interested in the chance to visit the lake than taking pictures for the contest.

A friend told me about a trip she was going to take with Ms. Bennett to Lake Travis and I got all excited! I have never before visited this lake, which everybody talks about it in school. Right after class I went to Ms. Bennett’s classroom to ask her if I could still possibly go. She said. “Yes, you can go, but first I need to get permission from your parents”. I immediately called my mom and she let me go, which got me more excited. Then Ms. Bennett told me to wait for her at her car, right after school.

Five minutes right after school Ms. Bennett, my friends Melissa, Gadel and I got in Ms. Bennett’s car in our way to Lake Travis. It took us about an hour to get to the Oasis restaurant. When we got there I was impressed by the restaurant itself. Right at front of the entrance was a beautiful garden full with yellow, purple, blue and red flowers, like the ones on television that old ladies have. Inside the restaurant, it was a little bit dark, but there were many small lights that made wood, crystal walls and objects shone. This special light effect caused the restaurant to look luxurious. However, we first introduce ourselves to the manager and explained to him the reason of our visit. He was very pleased that teenagers were attracted by the picture contest. He told us to go and feel free to take pictures. Of course we wanted to see the view, so we went right outside to the patio. The sight was so beautiful and vast, that I froze for over half of a minute. During this moment I also remembered the lakes and ponds in my home Mexico that are so small in comparison to Lake Travis. This memory made this view even more stunning. The lake was sparkling and the hills were covered with green all around by the flora.

After a moment of such a magnificent view, I started taking pictures of the restaurant and lake. The photography contest was a secondary reason for me to have taken this trip that I enjoyed. We were taking pictures all around the restaurant. We took pictures with the cameras as far as we could on the breathtaking landscape. My friends took a whole lot more pictures than I did pictures with the cameras as far as we could on the breathtaking landscape. My pictures were mainly focused on the lake’s landscape and objects that represent the restaurant, like margarita cups with the Oasis name, statutes facing the lake and flowers. In addition, the best picture we took was definitely one of Melissa’s. She took a picture of a cloud that blocked the sun’s light to an island in the lake, surrounding the island in light. Made it stand out in the picture. I think that Melissa has an excellent chance of winning the photography contest with this photograph.

From this trip I learned how joyful it is to have the chance to visit a place that you always want to go, but never have the chance to go. Plus I also found out it is not where you are, but with who you are that makes a certain place joyful. Although I had a different reason to take this trip other than the picture contest, I actually had fun.
