My trip began in a large school bus, filled with Juniors and Seniors. We were all anxiously waiting for the adventure that was hours away. Little did we know that after two weeks of sharing rooms together, never being apart from each other, and not being home; would we miss our families so much.
During my Junior year in high school the Juniors and Seniors took a two week trip to the East Coast. We were to see NYC, Boston, Washington D.C., and even a few hours of New Jersey. We could hardly wait to get there, and to experience all the historical and cultural differences between the two coasts.
Let me just say, that it was one of the BEST exerpiences of my life. I still look back and say “I wish I could go back today”. One day that I will never forget is the day we were in Boston for St. Patrick’s Day. Having some Irish heritage I was ecstatic to walk the streets of Boston that day. I was amazed by all the green and all the parties that were happening in little unknown pubs we happened to pass. The one thing I learned that day is to always be proud of who you are. I had always been proud to be Irish, but after being where they migrated to and worked so hard to start a life here, I truly appreciated my Irish heritage.
I wouldn’t necessarily say that this trip “changed me”, but it definitely gave me a new perspective on things. Yes, I always knew how busy NYC was, and how historical Washington D.C. was; but never had I experienced the size of the U.S.. After hour differences and different cultures between the two coasts; I realized how far I was from home. This trip gave me new persepectives on our governemnt and how it all came together, it gave me a new perspective on how much I love the west coast, and it definitely helped me realize that there is so much more in the world than what I know here, in California.
