Two years ago I joined a competitive all-star cheerleading team known as Northeast Elite. I started the season off on the Small Senior Level 3 team. Within a couple of months I was asked to be on the Small Senior Co-ed Level 5 team. I traveled to various places including Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Myrtle Beach, and Rhode Island. We succeeded and grew from all of these competitions, but the most important was Rhode Island. In Cheerleading in order to go to the Cheerleading Worlds you must obtain a bid. A bid is when a company believes your team is good enough to represent their name at the Cheerleading Worlds. Rhode Island is where we earned our bid and this was the most exciting day for everyone. Obtaining this bid meant we had to work harder than we had before. We had to upgrade our routine so we could succeed in the Worlds competition. Earning this bid it made me realize that by motivating myself it had not only helped me, but the other team members accomplish our dream of making it to this competition. In the middle of April we went to Orlando Florida for the Cheerleading Worlds. When we arrived, there was an abundance of teams from all over the world, including Slovenia and China. It was so intriguing to see all the different cultures of cheerleading. After we got settled in at the Walt Disney World Movies Resort we were able to practice with all the other teams on the tennis court at the Sports Resort. That night as a guest at Walt Disney World, all the teams were invited to go to a block party at Hollywood Studios so we could meet all the other teams competing in the competition. We all had a great time bonding with each other, but we had to get our rest because Saturday was the competition. The next morning we all went to the Milk House at the Wide World of Sports to get ready for the competition. By that afternoon we all came together as a team and were able to put on the best routine we could possibly perform. We knew we had to overcome all of our challenges we have faced in the past and just do our best.
After we were done with our performance we went behind stage and watched how we had done. We were all very pleased with our progress we had made from previous competitions. Now it was up to the judges to decide what place we acquire. There were fifty teams that competed on Saturday and only the top twenty would move on to compete for first place on Sunday. As we waited the whole team grew nervous listening for our name to be called. Our name was finally called and we received 25th place, only five teams away from moving on the next day. Although this was a disappointment, I personally took it as a challenge to grow for the year to come. Today we are aiming to place top ten and practicing with all our heart to hopefully one day win the Cheerleading Worlds.
