Ohio- Best day of my life - My Family Travels

March 18th, 2010, I traveled all night from Holland, MI to Youngstown, Ohio to see my favorite band Breaking Benjamin live in concert; they were also playing with Chevelle and RED who I also loved. I’d surprised my ex-boyfriend Shaun, who is also my best friend and roommate with tickets to see them, because it was also his favorite band and I really wanted to take him. I only had $150 from my paycheck and that had to cover gas there and back, toll thru Ohio, some food and souvenirs I really wanted to get. We left that night and drove 6 hours to get there (surprised by a $13 toll I didn’t expect) arriving at like 9:30am. We found the Covelli Centre and then decided to find a McDonalds nearby for breakfast. Then we headed back to find parking right across the Covelli Centre and decided to walk around awhile to see the sites and take pictures. Around 11:30 we got back and tried to sleep awhile because we were both tired; however Shaun saw someone walk inside and we decided to head down to see if we could get in. We knew the chances were unlikely but hoped we’d be able to get backstage if anyone from the band saw us, since we were the first ones there. Unfortunately we couldn’t go in but we did get to wait in the lobby right in front of the doors till they opened at 6pm. Trying to pass the time we played cards, hacky sack, took pictures and talked. Later more people showed and we ended up forming a group so we could all get front row.

Shaun and I decided that he would get front row while I went and got us t-shirts of Breaking Benjamin. Turned out the t-shirts were $30 each and I didn’t have enough for both of us so I made my way upfront.  As we waited for the band I started feeling kind of hot and dizzy cause all we’d had was breakfast. I felt horrible because I’d done this before and knew he’d get upset, and this was also my favorite band, but I rushed past everyone standing behind us to the bathroom. Turned out I was okay I just needed some water. On my way back I decided to surprise Shaun and get him the t-shirt I knew he wanted. I made my way back up front through everyone who was now there. Once they all saw me they told me how worried they were how amazed they were I’d made it back, one of them turned to Shaun and said, “She’s a keeper!” I gave him the t-shirt and he looked at me and smiled, “were you faking it?” I said, “no, I did feel sick I just knew you also wanted this.” He kissed me and told me he loved me and I was so happy. He rubbed my back to make me feel better till the show started and made sure I was in front of him so that I couldn’t get hurt but the insane crowd serfers that appeared later on. We took tons of pictures and videos and I ended up getting a guitar pic of Breaking Benjamin! The concert got crazy as it got later but it was still the best day of my life; I was with awesome people, watching my favorite bands and with the only person that mattered. We still loved each other and this was our chance to get away from life and just live in the moment and enjoy life.
