The Caribbean, How much better can it get? - My Family Travels

The best trip I took was to the Caribbean. It was a cruise aboard the Norwegian Dawn. This incredible journey took me to the Bahamas, Bermuda and Great Stirrup Cay. I had never been out of the country before or on a cruise. My grandparents took us on this cruise as a end of the school year present. My brother and I were very excited. The cruise was definitely jam packed with fun, but also served as a great learning experience.

The first stop was the Bahamas. We boarded a little boat, that we all thought was going to sink, and headed to a island that has a dolphin habitat. After a hour long orientation we were finally able to swim with the dolphins. It was the best thing I have ever done. On the way back the boat captain told us a bit of Bahamas history. In the Bahamas, many of the people earn a living by fishing or tourists, and a misconception is that people are poor. However, many live above the poverty line. The next day we would dock in Great Stirrup Cay. I woke up the next morning expecting to be docked at a port , instead we were in the middle of the ocean! To get to the Cay, we had to hop on a little boat that would ferry us back and forth from the island. Once we got to the island, I looked into the water and you could see all the way to the bottom; it was so blue and clear. My brother and I went snorkeling. You could see tropical fish everywhere, and some of them looked like the fish from the movie Nemo. The Cay is a private island owned by the cruise company. The people were so nice. They had a barbeque for all the passengers on the island, and we partied the whole day away. I stayed in the water for most of the time since it was so warm. Later I found out that I was swimming in shark infested waters. It’s a good thing nobody told me before I got in. I wouldn’t have swam as much as I did. After a fun filled day, we were off to Bermuda.

Bermuda was gorgeous . When we arrived in Bermuda, my grandparents wanted to take us to Horseshoe Bay. To get there, we had to take a taxi. In Bermuda the driving laws are different. They drive on the opposite side of the road. During the hour ride I was so afraid that another car was going to hit us. My grandparents thought it was the funniest thing. We finally made it to the beach with all limbs intact. The sand was white and soft, and the water was like blue glass. The coves went around the entire beach in the shape of a horseshoe. The rocks that made up the cove were a dark black color and had tiny crystals in them. When the sun shone on them the rocks sparkled. We spent the entire day there, and did not want to leave. While our time in Bermuda was short, it was probably the best place we went.

Bermuda, Bahamas, and the Cay were great places to visit. The sun, sand, and dolphins were relaxing and entertaining. I believe that this trip was my favorite by far, and maybe one day I can go on another cruise. We made memories to last a lifetime.
