December of 2009 – One week away, and the Lakeville North High School Marching Band can be seen stopping traffic, on any Saturday morning with a police escort, as they practice marching up and down the street for the Orlando Citrus Parade. Our director Mr. Earp had told us (the band) that we would be playing and marching to the song You Got a Feeling for this parade.
We left Sunday, December 27 at 8:30am and took eight coach buses. I was on bus number three, along with all my junior friends. We did not arrive in Orlando until Monday the 28, and we stayed at the Embassy Suites on Lake Street.
Tuesday, the 29 we loaded the buses for our morning practice then headed to Sea World. I was so excited because I had never been to Sea World before and could not wait to see Shamu. At Sea World, my group and I saw the seal show, the dolphins, and Shamu. We also went on the roller coaster Manta. You travel upside down and skim over the water. What a great feeling. After this, half of our group stood in line to order pizza and the rest of us stood in line at Shamu Stadium. Once inside the stadium, we found some seats and ate our pizza. This day was so much fun and Shamu was great.
The big day was the 30th. Today was the day of the Orlando Citrus Parade. We had to be up and in uniform by 8 o’clock am. The parade itself did not start till 11 o’clock am. I was so nervous. I did not want to mess up or make a fool of myself. It turned out to be so much fun. Seeing the crowd’s reaction to the song we were playing and to see all of them getting into it and cheering. It was fantastic. After the parade we loaded the buses and went back to our hotel, so we could change and then travel to Universal Studios. I had never gone on so many rides in my life. This place was so much fun, I loved it.
On December 31, we went to Walt Disney World and spent the whole day there, from 7:45am till 1:30am the next morning. Walt Disney was by far the best part of this trip; going on so many rides, being with your friends, shopping, and seeing the fireworks for New Years. This day was amazing.
We woke up the next morning to a thunderstorm. We checked out of our hotel in Orlando and went to Hollywood, Florida. On our way to Hollywood, I had realized that I left my 35mm black and white camera in my hotel room. I started to cry and did not know what to do. I told my chaperone and she told me it would be ok. She called the hotel and told them what happened and that they would send it to my house. I was so relived and thanked my chaperone. Once in Hollywood, we unloaded everything and checked into the Marriott hotel on Hollywood Beach. We stayed here a few nights to site see and relax on the beaches.
We left Hollywood Florida on Monday, January 4. We spent the night on the bus and arrived back in Minnesota, at our school, around 4 o’clock pm the next day. This trip was full of fun and awesome memories. I learned that you need to double check to make sure you have everything that you brought with you, if not you could go home without it.
