Traveling to Australia - My Family Travels

You have truly lived, if you have opened your eyes to the wonders of Queensland Australia.  If you ever want to give your eyes a beautiful scene, that will cement to your mind forever, Australia is the place to go. Somehow, in its own way everything seems more beautiful there.

Growing up and spending my whole life in Sugar Grove,  a very little town in PA, going to Australia was a huge step for me.  My sister Bekah, studied abroad in 2003, and met an Australian man, Kim.  Being two worlds apart, they had to go six months being away from each other.  This made them realize that they couldn’t live apart.  Years later, they ended up getting married and moving back to Australia.  It was hard having her all the way across the world from us, but I realize now,  how blessed I was being able to visit them.  The plane ride took a whole day to get there, but It was worth it in the end.  As soon as I stepped outside of the airport I was in awe of the beauty all around me.

It seems to me if you were to ask someone if they could pick anywhere in the world to go for vacation, they will say Australia. I visited my sister two summers ago, and stayed there for three weeks.  I wanted adventure, new outlooks on life, and new everything when I arrived there.  I can honestly say that I left with all of that and more.  I came home with a new perspective of the world, getting to see  it from the other side.  I took pictures everywhere I went so when I got home I could be filled with reminders of the amazing time I had, and memories that I knew would last a life time.  Even though it was hard to leave home, as soon as the trip was over all I wanted to do was go back.

An exciting day I had there, was when I visited a school in Rockhampton Queensland.   After visiting the school for a half day I realized how friendly the people could be to strangers. While students had many questions for me about where I came from, I had many questions for them as well.

While I was there I most enjoyed getting to go to Great Keppel Island, an island offshore of Australia on the Great Barrier Reef.   In order to get there you have to go on a thirty minute boat ride.  When I said I wanted adventure, that’s what I got.  There was a boat that we rode there that had a glass bottom.  It was incredible being able to see everything that was going on under the water.  Being able to see the bottom of the ocean, allowed  my eyes to open up to a whole new world.

Being so far away from home made me see everything differently.  I didn’t feel as homesick, I felt at home there. I noticed everything about the area had its own kind of peace, and calm to it.  All the way from relaxing in the sun, being surrounded by all the different bird sounds, and the calmness of the waves on the beach I felt like I had the world right in my hands. Everyone should put going to Australia on their bucket list.  Australia was not just a vacation for me it was a life changing experience that I will continue to remember for the rest of my life.
