My Chicago Adventure | My Family Travels

Have you ever dreamt of going to a place you’ve only heard things about but have never been? I was told before going to Chicago that the people have funny accents, Chicago has great pizza, and that Oprah lives there. I was incredibly excited, I thought I was going to come in contact with an iconic talk show host that I hope to be like someday and to think I was going to spend that moment with my hilarious mom was the icing on the cake!

The night my mom and I arrived in Chicago, we are dumbfounded by the number of people in the airport. We went outside to get a taxi, which was much more difficult than it looks in the movies. The taxi ride to our hotel was the scariest part of the trip. We felt as though we were sitting in Jeff Gordon’s racecar in a NASCAR race. When my mom and I got to our hotel room and we are memorized by our view of Michigan Avenue. There were so many lights I felt like I was part of the Larry King background of his show. We went outside to go find someplace to eat because the food in the hotel was so expensive, the least expensive item on the menu was a hot dog for $16.00. My mom found out what the best pizza restaurant was and we went there. We ordered the famous deep dish pizza but we made a mistake by also ordering an appetizer. Once the pizza arrived at our table the magnificent smell filled our nostrils. I couldn’t wait to clog my arteries with this small piece of Heaven. I took one bite of the pizza and my mind went into a different world. In that world I was singing on stage with the Jonas Brothers in front of a huge crowd. The only bad thing was that my mom and I could only eat one piece because we ate all of the mouth watering garlic bread for our appetizer. ;After we ate we went to the room to change for the Jersey Boys musical.

The musical was amazing every actor played their role perfectly. I wish they sold DVD’s because I wanted to watch the musical repeatedly. The next day of our adventure we went to Shedd Aquarium. My mom and I were astonished by the size of the aquarium and every section had different animals. My favorite part was the penguin section because I firmly believe penguins could be my cousins. When we left the aquarium my mom and I ate Chicago style hot dogs which I thought tasted like an ordinary hot dog.

Later in the day we went shopping. While we were in store I saw a man that look similar to Demarre Carroll, the Missouri University power forward. My mom went over and nonchalantly asked him if he was Demarre Carroll and he was. Demarre was incredibly friendly. He took a picture with me and autographed a piece of paper for my brothers. After our conversation with an amazing basketball player we went to the Harry Potter exhibit which had all of the original props from the movies. We felt like we were in the movie.

This trip with my mom was amazing it couldn’t have been any better. My advice to people who want to vacation to Chicago is to not be afraid to try anything and be sure to bring a coupon book. Don’t forget tennis shoes because you will be walking a lot.

"I firmly believe penguins could be my cousins" haha that was gold. I really want to visit Chicago (and I'd really love to live there, too). Is it as windy as everyone says it is? It sounds like you had a fantastic time, and the fact that you went to the Harry Potter exhibit is amazing!
