The Big Island - My Family Travels
100_1061

We went to the big island of hawaii for six weeks in the summer of 2006.  Half of the reason we went was for vacation, the other half was to help my dad finish his house so he could sell it and move up to Minnesota and live with us.  We got to help clean up his yard by getting all the weeds out of it so it looked good.  I got to help put the texture on the walls, and because we didnt have a popcorn sprayer to do it, we had to use paint rollers.  I also got to paint one of the rooms completely by myself, which at the age of 12 was a pretty big deal.  This trip meant a lot to me because I got to spend time with my entire family, including my dad.  I also got to meet my aunt, uncle, and their two daughters.  When we were there, I got to learn how to go deep sea fishing, and how my dad and uncle kill bees when they are out on the boat, and that would be taking a rolled up magazine and swatting at it.  I also learned that sea turtles are very protected there, you can't get anywhere near them when they are on land, and when they are in the water you need to try to stay away from them.  When we went to the Akaka State Park there was a guy weaving baskets out of leaves, and he showed us how to do that.  Me and my little sister also went with my cousins, and we learned how to hula.
