As my family and I piled into our big, white van, there was so much excitement in the air you could practically taste it. I felt like an eager little child on Christmas Eve- I seriously could not wait any longer! The ten hour drive to California felt like an eternity. We were finally going on the cruise we had been talking about all year long. It was going to be the best week of my life- traveling across the ocean, with family and good friends, all the food I want, and best of all… I was going to finally get to see Mexico. I had been there before, but I was younger. I was really excited to just soak it all in and really appreciate the culture… and the shopping J.
As we pulled up to the dock, I literally got butterflies in my stomach and started giggling. This humongous, luxurious, perfect ship was going to be my home for the next week! We all unloaded the car and each got our suitcases. Then, our family of ten paraded down the dock. We gave the workers our luggage and headed straight for our rooms in our boat called “The Mariner of the Seas”.
I was having so much fun that it felt like a dream. The first thing we had to do was have a drill, just in case of an emergency. Thousands of people walked to their drill spots in bright orange life jackets. It felt like an organized reenactment of the titanic! After, we went and had an incredible dinner. The menu was phenomenal, and the best part was there were no prices and you could get as much as you wanted! Afterwards my sister and I went to a teen party. I met some really cool kids and we ended up hanging out with them all week. That night, I slept like a baby. The boat rocked back and forth- lulling me and dragging me down to a deep and wonderful sleep. I have never been more relaxed in my life!
We finally arrived in Mexico on the third day. Our first port stop was in Cabo San Lucas. It was really cool because they didn’t have a lot of tourist shopping around, so we were able to just walk around and see how Mexico really is. We saw a Hispanic Wal-Mart across the street and we decided that we just had to go in there J. We had to cross a really busy street, and it was kind of scary because the drivers were really crazy!
When we got inside of the store, it was really weird because everything was in pesos- not dollars. We ended up just buying some Mexican candy called chicklets. It was fun for me because people everywhere were speaking Spanish, and I have been taking Spanish in school so I could understand bits and pieces of what they were saying. Our other stops were to Mazatlan and Puerto Vierta. We met so many different people- people who were doing anything and everything to sell something. We felt really bad for a lot of them, so we ended up just buying a lot of junk.
When we had to leave, I was really sad. The whole week was so much fun, and now it was over! I had such an amazing experience and I will remember it for the rest of my life. If I could do it again, I wouldn’t change anything- just make it longer! If you’re looking for the best trip of your life- go on a cruise!
