This summer, I went on vacation to Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina, with my mom’s side of the family. Including my grandma, aunts, uncles, and cousins, there were 27 people in all, ranging from age 12 to 76. With that many people, we rented a large beach house that could hold us all. With the exception of a few family members who would arrive later in the week, the families gathered everything up on Saturday morning, and departed around four o’clock in the morning. We all drove separately and arrived somewhere between two and five o’clock.
After arriving, we rushed into the house to see what it was like. However, my dad and I took the elevator and got stuck between floors. We would crawl out a couple minutes later, and it was later repaired. As we were looking through the house, we were amazed by how nice it looked! Even better, we stepped out onto the deck to see the view. We were amazed with the great view of the ocean from our oceanfront beach house. After taking in the view, we quickly carried our luggage into our rooms and headed to the pool in the backyard of the house.
My cousin and I brought our Xbox 360s. We hooked them up so we could play Halo. Every night, we played for hours until our eyes hurt. If we weren’t playing video games, it was usually a board game or cards. Also, the pool was occupied by frequent games of pool volleyball. There were some pretty fun and intense games that always brought out everyone’s competitive spirit.
Every morning when we would wake up, my cousins and I would always head out to the beach. We brought a football and passed football in the ocean. We also waited for the big waves, braced ourselves, and took it right in the chest. That was pretty fun.
There were a variety of places to eat where we stayed. The food ranged from chicken nuggets to pizza to frozen custard and of course, seafood. The food was a bit expensive, but it was definitely worth it! The food was great at every restaurant we visited.
There was one night that was completely different from all the other nights. That night we were playing Sardines. The family went out on the deck to wait for the person to hide. One person looked down at the hot tub and pool and noticed a man sitting down next to the hot tub. We insisted that he leave immediately! He followed directions; however, he tried to climb over the fence when there was a gate available. Some of us think he was acting drunk to get away with it. After he left, we found out that he lived right next door. We were sure to lock all the doors in the house after that incident.
All in all, the family vacation was fantastic! It was well worth the money and time spent searching for the perfect house. We made many memories and had a blast!
