In the fall of 2009, my parents and I took a cruise in the Mediterranean Sea for 12 days, stopping at 9 different ports in 5 different countries. I always have a great time on cruises, but I knew that this one would be even more amazing due to the different stops we were making.
My family flew into Venice, Italy where we spent a little over a day before boarding the cruise. Suprisingly enough, Venice ended up being one of my favorite places I have ever been. We walked miles that day, and soaked in the local cultre like we were sponges! Once we boarded the cruise and began to sail into the sea, we were able to see all the beautiful parts of the city from the ship, which was almost magical.
That night I went to the teen center, where I ended up meeting some of the greatest people whom I am still friends with to this day. Without them, I am not sure that this trip would have been as memorable. We all became so close that every second we were on the boat, we spent together. One night, a few of us even got hypnotized, which was definitely interesting to say the least. It makes me feel amazing that I could meet such a great group of people, and become so close in such a short amount of time
As the trip went on, we got to see all kinds of tourist destinations; such as Ephasus, Mykanos, Rome, Florence, Istanbul, Nice, Pompei and more. My favorite destinations out of those listed were Pompei, Ephasus, Mykanos and Rome. I found that the more culture and history a place possessed, the more I enjoied it. My overall favorite though, was Rome; it is the most beautiful city I have ever seen, which is somewhat hard for me to say because I am more of a nature person.
My least favorite part of the trip was sharing a room with my parents who are both snorers. Needless to say, none of us got much sleep, and every day was a bit of a struggle seeing as we were all a little cranky.
I think that trip definitely changed the way I view the world, seeing that there is still beauty. Because of this cruise, I plan to spend a semester abroad in Italy to experience it all again.
